i don't think any review is going to make hellgate more or less appealing to the people who do and don't want it
it's more of the same - more diablo 2 - and to the people who want it, it's the second coming, and i doubt any review will change anyone's mind
likewise for those who aren't diablo fans, hellgate is masquerading as a pseudo-fps, but no one has any real illusions i think, this is diablo 3 in different type font - and those who aren't diablo fans won't probably consider it, regardless of reviews
hellgate is one of the most unreviewable games of the year - just about everyone's already got their minds made up
to get a 89 you act like thats dissapointing. I think theyre waiting to see if its worth the $10 a month. In reality they should be like GAmespot and other sites that take their time reviewing MMO games and theyre SP aspect too.9mmSpliff
i feel disspointed, seeng that the ygave diablo 2 a 94

The score didn't disappoint me. What I said was I got the feeling that the score was more diplomatic than anything. Giving it 89 is keeping your integrity "sort of safe" by not quite marking it as "Editor's Choice," yet the score is high enough to satisfy the developer and invite further "exclusives." It just seems neither here nor there.
Fees? Fees?! I'm pretty sure it's free to play online...
You just have to pay extra for more character slots and other extras which aren't all that important. Not being a subscriber wouldn't make/break the game.

89 is great! Its not really that far from a 94 either. Maybe it got docked 3 points for value (monthly fee) and then 2 points on visuals (the visuals do seem a wee bit dated). But comeon, the game got an amazing score.

'i am getting the game anyway, not sure about the monthly option. i expected it to score much more, but yeah the review could have docked the score for a number of reasons, i just hope its the visual :P .
[QUOTE="kyrieee"]I'm a MASSIVE Diablo II fan and I don't want hellgateBaron_14
who cares about you
the others want hellgate
You're 14, who cares about you?
Yeah once I heard fees I stepped back. Please tell me what you get with these fees? --- And please tell me they don't matter?xDestroyer666x
Here's what you DON'T get without them:
Very limited customer support, only three character slots (there are 4 cla$$es), smaller inventory, no ability to get a house, no access to hardcore mode (die once and you're gone, which is the only real way of playing Dialo II at least), no fast travel. Also, there will be server queues.
I think the game just looks dull, who wants to shoot their weird guns that fire ugly strings of stuff. All the gameplay videos look really tame. There are lots of games that are like Diablo on paper and all have failed. I know they have lots of the Diablo team on their new team but they don't have the resources to perfect games like Blizzard has.
I'm still skeptical that PC Gamer reviewed Hellgate when they did. I'm pretty sure that the game wan't finished, nor could it have been a good time since the game isn't live yet. The community is going to make this game what it is. We have yet to see what the game will offer in the future. I'm pre-ordered and ready for release. mismajor99
Oh Idunno I imagine they have one or two servers up. You got all the friends and family subscribers that most developers do, then you got some privelaged beta testers...Im sure they have a few thousand people playing the game regularly in a nearly-finished state.
Still, it is the community that will put the final say towards how great the game is, like you said.

I care about myself
even if im 14 i still can kick your a**
kids posturing on the internet is always hillarious
It's not an MMO you just see online players in the town hub...(Think Guild Wars)
I'm still skeptical about this game... If the add-ons for the monthly fee online play is at least available for everyone off-line... I may consider it. No reason to take those away from off-line players IMO...
First off lets get the facts off..Its a free multiplay...If you want to go an pay a fee than you can pay 10 a month..There not saying every one has to pay this 10 dollars...Second of all...There doing a great job...Im in beta now..Let me tell ya its a fun great game...Wish you people would stop with this fee crap..Get your story right than talk..Holy cow...Third they are doing like they did with diablo online only better...This is a game that will be around for awhile...Its different its unique an its the first of this genre...Fps=diablo/swords an mages involved also..Only in the future..Plus its got uniqueness where the dungiens are different every time you play..The boss mobs are cool as hell..If you have read pc gamer they are hugee..
No im not breaking the nda for those who think i am..Im just stating a facts...So its your loss if you dont try it out..Before posting about hellgate...Find out about details...
I did not have high hopes for this game and now I know I was right. MadExponent
You make this judgement on 1 review and a 8.9 score???
People these days...
Hopefully this is the next forfilling rpg.. The last few have been absolute dieasters imo from Oblivion followed by Neverwinter Nights 2.
[QUOTE="TryDaBeardON"]I never liked Diablo either. weirjf
:o
I didn't care for Diablo either, aside from the music. Diablo II, however, was really hard for me to put down. Action rpgs, when done well, are a kick in the pants.
But...I get bored with MMOs really quick with all the bloody walking, sailing and et cetera about. Bottom line...I don't like spending hours of my day gathering raid parties and traveling to a given site. If Hellgate excludes that stuff, I might be willing to pay the monthly fee. It depends. It had better be really extraordinary for me to pay a fee on top of the base game price.

Yeah, I agree with the NWN2 portion of your comment. There were some good things about NWN2, but in the final analysis that game overwhelmed me with its mediocrity. That game just lacked imagination, relative to its predecessor. Better graphics cannot compensate for lack of depth and imagination.
seeing as how, if i remember correctly,PC Gamer has a tendency of overrating all high-profile productions, 8.9 really doesn't seem that good. but yea, it's justa review.
personally, i'm not interested in that game either.from whati have seenin the actual gameplay video, there isn't anything impressive to look forward to. :?
I did not have high hopes for this game and now I know I was right. MadExponentSince when the hell was an 8.9 bad? You guys are pissin your pants because of this so called "Low Score"
Did I wake up in bizzaro world or something? Since when is 89% bad? According to PC Gamer, 89% is in the upper range for EXCELLENT games.

I heard PC gamer are pretty tough on their reviews(correct me if I'm wrong)

They are about average. They deffinetly are not the toughest though, though I think overall they are pretty balanced.
In another thread I did a comparision of PC Gamers scores vs other sources, and they are usually in line with most of the major reviewing publications.
I would not put much stock into what PCgamer says. They have really went down hill and are not too far from closing its doors. The entire magazine is 90% advertising so ofcourse they are gonna give certain games good scores.
I was excited about hellgate up until I heard about the fees. I would rather play a real MMO if I am gonna fork over $xx a month. Plus if you DO subscribe, you give others a reason to charge a monthly fee for ANY server based game. I don't know about you but I rather not pay $10 a month to play starcraft II online or any other RTS/FPS game for that matter. I'l lwait and see what happens before I jup on this ame day one. These may be the same guys who made Diablo II but they do not have the backing they had at blizzard.

I would not put much stock into what this poster says, 90% is total fabrication.
