I'm looking for an online game to pass the time and I can't decide between the two. I have Guild wars prophecies and Nightfall but I'm a little tired with whats left for me to do in the game. I just checked best buy the other day and both factions and hellgate are 29.99. Which one would be more worth the money?

yup, both nightfall and prophecies. I heard factions is the worst out of the three so I don't want to invest in it yet.

Why dont you just download the Hellgate:London demo and try it? Asking other peoples opinion is pointless!

I did and it was pretty fun. The main reason for asking is that I can't access the Hellgate London forums so I can't really tell whats happening in the game and If people are actually enjoying it, unlike the Guildwars forums. All I can do is play the demo and watch a review or two. I was hoping someone who plays or has played hellgate could give me insights as to whether HGL is worth 30 bucks.

I've been playing Hellgate on and off since January, it is not as deep as Guildwars, but if like collecting gear and upgrading it. Then it is a game for you. I've never payed for the subscriber content so I can comment on it, but I will say the default storage capacity that they give you is ridiculously small and will force you to make hard choices about the gear that you carry.

Hellgate is awesome, but in GW its more teamplay and in Hellgate finding people who has come as far as you and are working on the same quests are rather time consuming. But all in all its a fun game with lots of new twists for an MMORPG. Personally, I've only tried the first GW, as when the expansion packs started coming I didnt want it to consume my (rather skinny) wallet.

So I recommend GW, more teamplay and thats what I find the most interresting in mmorpgs.

But then again, I never played the expansions...

Get Hellgate

Guild Wars is cool and all but you likely have the whole experience already, barring one or two classes. Not a big deal.

Hellgate, on the other hand, is just plain fun. Mindless, yes...but fun none the less. Like Diablo...you just keep clicking and clicking as you shoot, cast, or hack your way through thousands of demons and zombies.

Get Hellgate, its fun. Super fun

I thnk you are better off playing Dungeon Runners than Hellgate: London. Dungeon Runners pokes a lot of fun at its own genre, which just makes it that much better. That might hold you over until Mythos is released (both are free games with optional stuff you pay for).

Mythos (which started out as a network test for Hellgate: London code or something like that, incidentally) is like Diablo 2 with a pinch of World of Warcraft, except it doesn't take itself very seriously. It's still in closed beta, but it's definitely gotten a lot more positive feedback than Hellgate: London did. It's also going into open beta soon, according to their site, so I don't expect it to be too long until it's actually released.

Hellgate: London got ripped apart for being...not very good. Then on top of that you have to pay a fee if you want access to the added content.

Guild Wars Factions is okay, but like you said not as good as the other 2 stand-alone campaigns. It gets a little better once you get out of the crappy maze-like city which occupies roughly half of the campaign. Ritualist is one of the more interesting professions IMO.

Really, Eye of the North is better that factions other than the fact that it doesn't get you access to those other 2 professions.

I'd say neither. Hellgate becomes so repetitive after playing it for a bit. Plus if you want to explore the new areas and be able to play certain types you have to pay to play.

Sounds like you are burnt out on guild wars also though, so maybe try something else, are you looking for mmo's only?

I would say Hellgate. It's come a long way since release and runs pretty well, although I still wish they would add more tilesets for the environments. If you like loot collecting like Diablo, Hellgate does capture that aspect very well. I'm still playing it here and there, building up my second toon.

Myself never liked guild wars but i have been playing hellgate on and off since it came out and its a fun game. Don't expect a good story line or anything and does get repetitive but slaughtering all those monsters and finding good loot is fun.

Another might consider is Titan quest with addon (19.99 each in Canada). I think this is best game ever made for how skills are handled, so many combos make your head spin which makes this game very replayable not to mention the graphics are really nice. But sadly the online is the weak part of this game since its hosted on peoples computers which means they can cheat so unless your playing with people you know online isn't that great but offline this game is great.
