did yeah see if you need to flip the breaker for the electricity? Sometimes if you have too much hooked up in one area, the breaker can go. If it is fine, then yeah, your PSU sounds like its done and its RMA time. It happens to the best of us, so dont stress. Remember...S**t happens

Possibly. What are your specs and what is the psu rated for? You check all power inputs? There should be a 4pin and the big 20 or 24 pin connected to the mobo, along with the small little single pins to the power switch and grounds etc. Make sure none are loose, you could even try unplugging your video card's extra molex/pci-e power to reduce power requirements significantly, it would at least start and then give you a warning about it not being connected so you know the psu isn't dead. Something easily overlooked could also be a blown breaker, but if anything else is plugged into the same plug and is working, obviously it isn't that.

Well if you didnt build it, why not just send the PC back to the manufacturer. If not, a good once from Antec is around $60-$80. They wont fit in a DELL or HP case tho, so look into a CoolerMaster Centurion 5 case. $40 and they rock

What's a lot of money to you? What gfx card are you using? I personally wouldn't spend less than $100 on a psu, which doesn't seem expensive to me, just a necessity for getting a good, safe overclock but your needs could be much less.

could be bad psu, incompatible ram, something isnt plugged in tightly, reset the cmos and try again and make sure everything is plugged in very tightly

And if this was brand new, it should be under warranty from the manufacturer, but that could take a while to replace.

A Antec Smartpower for $60 will be good for him as long as hes not overclocking and thtas a nice PSU too. But yeah, I dont spend money on my setups PSU unless its around $150-$250cdn.

why dont you have your tech guy neighbor come back over and look at it, its free and maybe he has some extra parts.  but its probably ur super human power that crushed the power button and blew the power supply

Even with things incorrectly inserted or DOA, it should at least start spinning the fans. Unless maybe the mobo died instead, not sure cause I've never had one go out on me. There should be a little green LED somewhere on the board to signify it's receiveing power.

why would the fans spin if the PSU doesnt start up? IS there a way to do that?

I meant it as if the psu was working, that should occur even if some things aren't correctly inserted. If dead yeah obviously nothing will run.
