I bought a new pc its specs are: 3 gb of ram, 8600 gts, amd dual core 3800 500 gb hd. why is it lagging on games???

could it be that i downgraded it from vista to xp?

What games are you playing, and what do you mean a dual core 3800, maybe it's an athlon 64 x2 3800+?

Update your drivers... that's usually the problem.

By 3GB of RAM, do you mean 3 1GB sticks, 2 1GB sticks and 2 512MB sticks, or a 2GB stick and a 1GB stick? If it's the first, try removing one stick of RAM and seeing if that helps.

Go to the control panel and check that windows is recognizing all of your RAM.

Defragment your hard drive.

If those don't help, turn down your settings a bit. The 8600gts isn't going to be pulling in massive framerates playing Crysis on very high at 2400x1600 (if it even supports that resolution).

i also found some spyware etc... and got that taken care of.
