Do not get an 8600gt, it is not going to last in newer games, a 9600gt is the one you should get. You basically should spend more on your GPU than your ram :P (you only want expensive ram if you are going to overclock) . PS: the 8600gt can not use 1 GB of really slow ram, so technically it is no better than a 8600gt 256.

Buy cheaper Ram, I bought my ram for about $50 and it works fine.

Don't get that sound card, it isn't much better than intregrated. You should atleast spend enough to get an X-FI card if you want a sound card.

Get a larger HDD, you will need it.

You could probably get a Q6600 and a pretty good mobo with what you have left.

It really does depend on how much of a budget you are working with. If you just want to build a decent PC that can at least RUN all the new games, you can upgrade later if you feel the need. That 8600 isn't a good idea, it really cant handle the amount of memory they have put on it. Right now Newegg.com has a Geforce 8800...GS i think for 130 bucks or so. Thats an unbelievable deal and is like half of what that card would normailly cost.

You'll also need about a 600 watt power supple which will cost about 50 bucks or so. (This is all from newegg as it is where i get my parts from). The mother board has some important things you need to look for. Make sure it has a PCI Express port, youll need it for your graphics card. If you buy a good one it should run you about 80-120 bucks or so. You need to get a good one to make sure it is compatible with good parts.

As for your memory, you are looking at some pretty high speed memory chips, so make sure it says your motherboard can run that speed. On Newegg it will have an area you click on called "specifications". Once you click it just look where it says the compatible speeds. Ex. 667, 800, 1000.

The hard drive will probably do for now that you have chosen, just make sure it will connect with your motherboard (with a SATA connection). The CPU should be about a AMD X2 4200 or above to be honest. That should be enough power to get you going. I would write more but i gotta go, ill check back to see if you need more help. :)

I'd look into Gigabyte P35 DS3L as amobo along with E8200(Dual core) or Q6600(Quad core). For the video card, go with 9600GT or 8800GT if you could find agood offer.
For the ram, buy Crucial Ballistix because they are the best as DDR2 sticks and you can find alot of cheap deals. Finally, for the PSU, you can get Antec 400~500w for 40$ maybe

the ds3l is great, but if you plan on trying overclocking ud get a much easier overclock with the ds3r, the northbridge can take a hell of a beating from my experience,

ive tried both tho and theyre btoh great price to performance mobo's

If you are from Canada, go check these sites out

www.canadacomputers.com

www.tigerdirect.ca

www.ncix.com

Processor - Go with Q6600 if you multitask a lot, else a Core 2 Duo E 8400 will be great

Mobo - Gigabyte P35 DS3L - 100$

Gfx - Geforce 9600 GT or 8800GT - 190$

PSU - Corsair and Antec have a good rep...go with 500W upwards

RAM - It really doesnt matter what brand you are going with. 2GB (50$) is fine for XP, if you have Vista, go with 4GB (90$)

hope it helps :)

You see, all of us are recommending same parts because they are th ebest for the money and sometimes they are even better than more expensive ones.

However, you didnt mention where do you live so we cant really give you asite but you can check eBay anyways because alot of sellers do international shipping all over the world

first off,

there really isnt much difference between mobos, but i would get the ga-p35-ds3l

bow yes the 8800gt is better than the 9600gt, faster core clock, more stream processors, etc.

its up to u for the brand,

XFX had a double lifetime waranty, meaning if you sell the card, that person will have a lifetime warranty too, plus they usually ship all their cards with either company fo eharos or call of duty 4 nwo,

eVGA has a stepup program, meaning if u buy the card and come up with lets say 50 bucks, if u payed 200 for the 8800gt and want the 8800gts, u simply sed the card, and pay the difference in price, i.e. 50 bucks

its your choice, both are reputable companies

If you are getting partsseparately, then make sure you get EVGA or Nvidia (since you seem to be going after Nvidia), those are the best brand names for gpus/motherboards. Asus is good as well.

MOST DEFINATELY get the G0, it is the most versatile and overclockable.

Power supply anything 600 Watts or above that has a good reviews will do, just make sure it is compatable with the motherboard you end up buying, generally one designated ATX12V 2.2 will cover you. Here is one of many you can choose from:http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=013680&cid=PS.808 (just an example, obviously you will have to research what is available in your area)

For the cooling, get the retail version of the CPU and you will get a stock cooling unit with it, and as long as you have a well ventilated case with plenty of fans for air circulation, that will do fine, even if you overclock a little bit.

That is fine for the hard drive or you can get this one, which also has a great reputation: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073

If your motherboard has sound onboard, it is not necessary to buy one unless you want extreme sound, most onboard sound is capable of 5.1 surround now-a-days. But if you want a card anything on this page: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000360057+50001137+1101108503&name=7.1

But I would stay away from the SE series, as they are the basic models, not much better than onboard chips now.

I strongly recommend against the 9600 series altogether. If you are trying to save money, get a 8800GT Superclocked, Overclocked etc.

If money not a problem get the 9800 series. The reason is the 9600 is actually a LESS capable card than the 8800. I am sure anyone will agree to this.

And the memory will work just fine.
