I'm looking to get a budget gaming PC- already have a monitor that'll work fine- but I'm strapped for cash right now and can't spend more than $400... so- should I build my own? I was looking around on newegg.com and they had some fairly decent computers for this much... but nothing with anything more than a low end graphics card. Any advice would be great!!!!

Thanks :)

No GPU? Ya, you need to spend about $600-700 on a new computer. Im assuming you will need an OS too

Case + PSU - Antec mATX case with 380w PSU

Motherboard + CPU - AMD Athlon II X2 240 w/Gigabyte US2H AM3/AM2+/AM2 mATX motherboard

RAM - Crucial Rendition DDR2-667 2GB

HDD - Caviar Blue 320GB

GPU - Sapphire HD 4670

Optical - Sony Optiarc SATA DVD Burner

Total W/S&H - $404.93

This list does NOT include any items that have Mail In Rebates unlike the other ones. So you do NOT have to worry about Mail In Rebates being calculated into the total(like the first list) or having to worry about whether or not the rebate will be mailed to you.

I had a MIR from Corsair that took over 3 MONTHS to get. I don't think you want to be waiting that long or not get anything at all. There are times when you won't get one.

This list also has almost every item as Free S&H. So at most you pay $6 in S&H fees with my list.

Built in, I never saw the point in getting a dedicated card.

This is kinda sexy!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.293807

Combo Price: $479.99

It has an onboard HD4200 which can play some games, not on the greatest of setting mind you but playable. Comes with a Blue Ray/DVD/CD combo drive, and AThlon IIx4 at 2.6ghz, 4gigs of DDR2 1066, 1TB HDD, 350PSU. You can always add a low profile card like the 4650-4670 and it will be a nice small home theatre setup.

EDIT: I know this is over budget but I just thought it was cool and wanted to share it with you all. :)

If you're a college student you can get Windows 7 for $30 straight from Microsoft.

no no it's okay really. Actually I'm capable of taming computers. Those computers touched by UltimateGamer never seem to have problems and this is oddly true ;)
