Ok how about restating what I sayed, what is the best computer one can get for under $150 (already have components allready stated), and ignore everything else. And jesus WTF this is not a joke thread, do people find it funny for a guy to be asking help?swordtossZThe prices I gave you are the cheapest available from newegg. That's why people think it's a joke thread, because it's an impossible dream. And don't bring Jesus into this....he's on our side ;)
okay, so here is how you get a 150 dollar computer. Buy a gun, and go rop your local computer store.
How much can the gun cost?

Here's as cheap as I can get it. $189 off Newegg including Xandros OS. I'm thinking if you just get a free solution such as Ubuntu, that'll be about as close as you're going to get.

APIDA 256MB DDR400
Western Digital 40GB 7200RPM HardriveÂ

Xandros Retail OS (Again, try a free solution)
This is as low as I can go. I obviously question the power of the system, but more importantly, I question how long it will even last.Â
It seems that the more expensive a system gets, the more money you are going to save when building it yourself. But if you are looking for a budget system, it might be better to go with a pre-built system since they get the parts on discount from large orders.
There are sites out there that sell systems around that price. They are P3 and early P4 generation systems often with Linux, but this may be the solution for you.
And later, you can upgrade with Windows. But with those PC's, I would probably go with Windows 2000 Professional... assuming that you would only want to do basic things with this system. Since that's basically all you can do in the first place.
