Anyway, I'm starting a new project using my evil tax money I'll be getting soon, and what better to use it on than a new computer

So here are the specs and links. Not 100% sure if this mess will work, but it's fun to try lol. Big note here, I'm on a budget of $600 at the most. currently im at $503.92 plus shipping. So i have very little wiggle room.

My biggest question mark is the powersupply. there's a 400W with the case i've selected, but should i opt for a new one?

I'd get HD3850 256mb which is around 160$ which gives 60 more and.. maybe get something for a better CPU. As I see you will have to overclock. I'd recommend you some of intels E2140/60 which are cheap too and can overclock well. Your choice.

Just would like to add... A lot of power supplies that come with cases aren't very good, in terms of quality, noise level, life span, etc... I'd say it's fine to just keep that cheap little 400W power supply for now, but consider getting a solid 500W-750W power supply, which I've seen for under $75... But hey, if the power supply works fine for you and doesn't break, then good!

Looks good, the only thing I'd do is buy an aftermarket PSU. Ones that come with cases are usually pretty bad and you definetly don't want a bad PSU. I'd get this PSU. I'd also get the Radeon X1950 PRO video card instead. A little more bang for your buck.

I got my PSU with the case and i must say i don't see any problems yet.

Trilvester got one great idea. I didn't even think about x1950pro. You should get one really cheap.

Well using one with the case is more taking a risk than anything. I had one with my case and it crapped out on me a few months later but other people might have theirs running fine for a while. Its a hit or miss kinda thing.

no i don't think it's hit or miss. Those in cases are usualy cheaper, so that the whole case isn't so expensive. That's why they give cheap bad PSUs in. I studied a bit before buying and i knew what i was going to get and it's ok with me.

very cool. Judging by my experience with 'taking chances' with computers, i'll fork over the extra $60 for a new power supply.

You guys are awesome. didn't expect this much feedback in such a small amount of time.

btw, is it that much of a difference between the 256MB Radeon X1950 PRO and the 512MB version?

i don't think it is that really huge. If you are playing on really high resolutions like beyond 1600x1200, you might get 512mb, if 1600x1200 is ok for you (as it is for me :) ) 256mb is just fine .

Sure, it will go on your motherboard.

Be aware to buy PCI-E x1950pro. Don't mess things up buying the agp version ;)

yeah but round peg will go to square hole if it's small enough. But you can get any kind of AGP card size you like, you won't get it work on pci-e slot. ;)

anyway, fiddled with the specs alittle.

Snagged a new case
put in a Rosewill Stallion 500W power supply
And switched out the 1950 Pro with a Radeon 3850

soooo i think im good to go. just gotta do the fun stuff now.
