Aiight. I need help picking parts to build a good PC. This will be my first time building a PC so it will be good to hear a lot of ideas that give me confidence to get the right parts. My budget is around 1000 to 3000(stretching it a little). I been on Newegg, Tiger Direct Microcenter, etc. and picked various parts to get started but since this is my first time doing this Im having trouble picking various parts and understanding the compatibility between them and different motherboards.

That's a pretty broad budget so below is the lowest I would is

i5 4670K with a decent Z87 motherboard ($340 for both, less than $300 if you live near a microcenter and can bundle there). Hyper 212 evo is a good CPU cooler for around $30

2x4GB DDR3 1600 ($65-80). Harddrive and DVD drive are usually a combined $80-100 for both. Decent midtower cases go for about $60-80 (can be even more expensive if you want a full tower instead of a mid tower).

GTX 760 SC video card ($260). Copy of windows is usually $100. A good quality powersupply from seasonic, enermax, corsair, Silverstone....ect range from $70-120.

The above is the lowest I would go. I'm not saying you have to buy what I listed, Im just trying to show you what you can get for the low-end spectrum of your budget

Your budget is so broad that you have many options at your disposal (changing the CPU to an i7, upgrading the GPU to a GTX 780 series, buying a fulltower instead of midtower......ect).

I agree. If anything I would like to spend around 1000-1200 max.I guess at the time saying 3000 would bring in more ideas. But I really appreciate the responses though. Its a start so I can be able to shop around for parts I need and to eventually get I what I want.

For AMD cards they are only compatible with AM3+ or FM2+ motherboards. LGA motherboards are for Intel cpu's.

Ram shouldn't matter (go with DDR3) but you can go to the manufactures website to check if they are compatible with the motherboard you have bought.

I think thats all you need to know.

Hehe I agree you don't need anything more than a 1200 budget to game max for the next couple of years: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/38ooP =)

I really like that link. It makes searching for parts a lot easier here's what I came up with(you can disregard the peripherals for now). I decided to stick with one gpu for now. Im having trouble choosing between the 4770k and FX-9590. know having more cores is better for multitasking and i dont plan on having multiple monitors but is it better for gaming?

No, not currently, unless you're planning on heavy duty programs and editing stuff.

either stick with 4670K or if you're on tight budget go with FX8XXX series

Okay Ive been playing around it for a few days now but is whats your reasoning for me getting not getting the 4770k instead? Im planing one keeping this cpu for a while and dont plan on upgrading for at least 5-8 years once built. I guess it would make more sense to use the saved money on a better gpu and,yes thats the once reason why I understand going with the 4670k as well.

just to add on.. Im planning to use it for mostly gaming and multimedia entertainment.

You can use i5 4670k for up to 5 years or even more.

The reason don't waste money on stuff that you don't need.

Okay I got you! Again appreciate your replies. I see that Micro center is selling @ $190! I will check that out next weekend that may be the first part I buy. The next part for me is the motherboard. I already like the one you've suggested just doing more research and comparing.
