Well my dad is looking for a new system of course he is gonna build it using Newegg like we have done with every machine in our household. So my question is what is the next step up PERFORMANCE wise over a 7950GT/X1950PRO. I cant find the XT anymore. So what would be the next step up above those cards listec?

He wanted the X1950PRO with 512mb ram he runs his res at 1280x1024 so I told him there would be no point. The card is 200 bucks. So I told him spend the extra 60 and get an 8800GTS. He doesnt really know yet. So what would go in between the 79XX/X19XX and the 8800 series?

I am building a computer myself. I have to tell you that you that there are many choices out there. The best two cards for the money are the 8800GTS and the 2900Pro. People say that the 2900Pro performs a little better and is in fact cheaper. I am considering a set up for future crossfire, so I am going with the pro. the pro also runs 1 degree C hotter ( no big deal)

The X1950XT was recently discontinued so good luck finding one. I suggest the HD 2900pro, but it is out of stock most places.

You can get them here though
