Ok Well i was working on my friends PC and he somehow got a terrible virus on there so he wanted me to re format. So i did After the Re format (i did the long re format) i got windows XP Home on there and when i went to download anything like Drivers, firefox, games it would automaticly freeze. i did 3 complete reformats in 1 day to try and fix the problem. th 3 time i reformatted it i got all the windows updates downloaded and installed first then when i went to download the drivers BAM Froze again. i even downclocked his processor to try and fix this problem but it didnt help.

Dose anyonw know how to fix this problem? Or maby the hard Drive is dying? Any advice would help alot.

If the hard-drive was dying, trust me you'd hear it pretty loud and clear.

Does it freeze completely or BSOD?

well if you did a reformat and its still freezing up it sounds like a hardware problem, check for dust and make sure your temps are ok. kinda sounds like a harddrive problem is it clicking or making more noise than usual? because if you try to download something and it freezes thats usually the problem sounds like you might need a new hdd.

This is clearly a sign of bad memory.i had the same problem that the pc would randomly freeze so i f you have two sticks of ram one of them or both is defective just test with memtest download and burn on a bootable cd here: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso the latest version is 1.70 good luck :) .

He could just remove one stick at a time if he has multiple DIMM's.
