Hi, so I need a monitor for gaming. Among the games I play are WoW and BF3 (so obviously need a fast response time). But I also do some photo editing and ofcourse will enjoy films. This purchase will also be my 1st in the 1080p world.

A simple google search on "best gaming monitor"and the 1st link took me here:

http://www.squidoo.com/gaming-monitors

The 3 monitors in the 24" are:

Samsung P2450H

Viewsonic VX2453MH-LED

Acer H243H bmid

I especially like the Viewsonic for its cheaper price hehe.

In the 22" area: ViewSonic-VX2239WM

http://www.amazon.co.uk/ViewSonic-VX2239WM-display-widescreen-speakers/dp/B003Y3BJB4/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1326041383&sr=1-1

It has a very good price as well.

Please help me decide, or give provide me with any other options/ suggestions. Much appreciated. :)

budget?
location? (uk based on ur amazon link)
size you want?
ports? (1 hdmi, 1 dvi, ect)
speakers?

I personally use the Acer S27EHL and highly recommend it, LED is worth it in my opinion (the speakers suck though, so i hope you have speakers)
http://ncix.com/products/?sku=57768

from what you posted, the viewsonicVX2453mh-LED is definitly the best, but undoubtably the most expensive

and if you had an unlimited budget, I'd be telling you to get the Dell Ultrasharp:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-UltraSharp-PremierColor-monitor-1920x1200/dp/B005Z4QYY2/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1326044585&sr=1-6

Budget: under £180, hence the fondness with the Viewsonic models mentioned, and previous Viewsonics have served me well.

Location: Yes UK

Size: Preferably 24", but 22" will do. Hence the models mentioned are 24" and a 22".

Ports: Not fussy, I currently use DVI, I am not sure if I will be using hdmi. :S

Speakers: Nope, already got nice desktop speakers.

The viewsonic I linked was LED, not sure about others. And actually in UK, the Viewsonic VX2453MH-LED is the cheapest. About £150. The 22 inch Viewsonic I mentioned is only £115.

Also forgot to mention this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004EFYG70/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=gamingsquid-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399369&creativeASIN=B004EFYG70

How does this compare?

that last one you likned to is great:
LED backlit
1080p
HDMI (it's the new standard, it'll make life easy in teh future)
cool design is alway a plus
2ms response time, thats very good, what evevry monitor aspires to
HDCP, so ur all good there
and a DVI slot incase thats all ur using for a reason
24", bigger is always better :)

so, yeah, go for theASUS ML248H

only downside I see is the touch-screen like buttons, but it's a minor complaint
o yeah, a TFT panel (type of LCD screen), but thats all your gonnag et in this price range

so it's ur best option, click purchase

Your budget is too low for either of the three big features found in mid-range/higher-end monitors: IPS colors, 120 Hz fluid motion, or 3D.

So.... basically take whichever you monitor you feel like, because its going to be an low quality TN panel that will perform nearly identical to any other monitor in that price range.

The price difference between the Viewsonic and the Asus is about £35, is it worth it? I would rather not spend that much, and what is special about hdmi over DVI?

IPS are way to expensive atm, something I can do without, same for 3D. Only thing is probably 120 Hz from that.

I'm not 100% sure but i think backlight bleed happens even to a lot of high end ips monitors like the ultrasharp. If it wasn't of the backlight bleed, PA238Q would've an amzing monitor.

EDIT: The monitor you want is almost guaranteed backlight bleed. I was gonna buy it too but reviews are just shiet for it.

For anyone looking for 3D cheap, I found these two. Though not sure how much is being sacrificed for that price. http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-D2342P-PN-inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B004V4G95Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1326097602&sr=8-3http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-UG5HE-019-1080p-Backlight-Monitor/dp/B005DGENC2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1326097602&sr=8-4

And then I have found these 2 relatively cheaper Dell Ultrasharp IPS. but then again, why so cheap? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Ultrasharp-U2312HM-inch-Monitor/dp/B005MHMFJA/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1326099006&sr=1-2http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-U2312-Widescreen-Panel-Monitor/dp/B003R7K332/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1326099006&sr=1-6

Damn, i want to try the ultrasharp (23-24") but can't find them on any canadian sites... Any1 knows a viable site that sell those? I like the Viewsonic TC posted (VX2453MH-LED) and may order it today but is it worth going with this model over and IPS monitor for 300$ or less?

I was just on Dell's site and fund this beat for only 229.99 (with coupon). I'm from canada so i won't be able to buy it for that price but i'm just gonna wait until this monitor is on sale from Dell.ca (monitor is U2312HM). I don't think any monitors will be a better purchase under 350$ and its an IPS too.

I've only heard good things about this model, but yes, some reported backlight bleed. It sucks because just a little over a week ago the monitor was 199 CAD and i couldn't buy it cuz of stupid RMA refund of PA238Q :( I missed that and now gotta have to wait ages but i've heard Dell products from their site is on sale frequently so i hope it doesn't take too long.

I am in a similar situation as you. With the budget I have, I am not sure to just go with the Viewsonic or Asus. OR go with a cheap IPS. And there is the refurbished IPS linked earlier, but not sure If I should go with that as it may have some bleeding/ marks.

Personally i won't go with a refurbished monitor especially for an IPS model. If you're buying brand new the U2312HM is the way to roll me think. Look at some reviews from youtube. its very good but a little cheap plastic feel.

IPS is definitely a good buy. As for refurbished, it depends. Different places have different definitions of the word. My girlfriend got a 'refurbished' phone for half price, but it hadn't actually been used.

So you reckon a cheap IPS (£ 186) is worth it than the Viewsonic at £150? I read somewhere these cheap models are not true IPS.

I'm no expert, but IPS panels are better quality. You'll be using this monitor for years, it's probably worth and extra £35. The reviews for the LG I linked are great.

Don't ever do that. Go with a refurbished as kraken suggested, or don't go IPS at all.

Also there's no such monitor designed specifically for gaming. Don't bother with LEDs unless having a thinner monitor is a necessity.

The refurbished one i linked IS a cheap IPS. At least it is in the UK. About £150, when most 22" 1080p TFTs are £100. Amazing deal.

A cheap IPS is better than any TN you can possibly purchase with the exception of 120 Hz 3D enabled TN monitors simply because IPS and 120 Hz are currently mutually exclusive properties.

Getting a mid-ranged refurbished IPS is not a bad idea. In fact, both my monitors were factory refurbished ones: HP ZR24W for about $380 and an NEC LCD2490WuXi at $620.

A new, entry-level IPS, is a perfectly fine choice. The reality is that most IPS monitors all have the same panels manufactured by LG, until you start gettingo into the $800+ range.

If you want someone's opinion on a monitor that performs absolutely exhaustive testing, please visit http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/ you will probbably know more about your monitor of choice than the actual manufacturers themselves after reading their reviews.

^^ Alright thanks for that. Lastly I know IPS panels tend to have relatively slower response rate, eg this Dell has and 8ms (gray to gray) response time. Seeing as how 2 ms is recommended for gaming, how much ghosting am I looking at here? http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=613463 And on a slightly side not, while looking for monitor deals on Dell site, I came across this. http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=482824 The touch screen option is very attractive. But the response time is 8ms (gray-to-gray) with overdrive and 14ms (gray-to-gray) without overdrive. Also the size is a bit smaller (21.5 "). Opinions?

I already gave you the answers :P

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2312hm.htm

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_st2220t.htm

You are NOT going to find any reviews more in depth than the ones that exist on thsi website. If you can't end up reading these reviews adn then coming to a conclusion, theres not much that anyone else can tell you.

You will, at best, get anecdotal evidence thats amounts to little more than "i have XXX monitor and i like it", and its not going to comapre to delta E analysis of color spaces and frame-by-frame comparison of refresh rate trailing.

On another note, response time rates listed are nearly meaningless. A variety of RTC (response time compensation) techniques such as algorithms that can "guess" the next frame as well as increased voltage across the panel to forcefully drive faster response for short periods, and it makes it difficult to accurately judge response time at any given point. Thats why i like tftcentral's analysis of a high framerate camera during a 60 FPS animation.

I was personally evaluating the ST2220T when it first came out. I was pretty close to getting it until i called Dell and they confirmed no VESA mounts on the monitor. My current setup requires my monitors to be mounted on an arm. I was largely interested by its wide viewing angles and touchscreen capabilities, and not at all in its actual image quality, colors, response time, size, aesthetics, etc.

Alright guys, lets finalize this, no need to look at Refurbished ones, when Amazon has great prices.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_nr_scat_428652031_ln?rh=n%3A428652031%2Ck%3Aips&keywords=ips&ie=UTF8&qid=1326457385&scn=428652031&h=3a7461e32343425fb5dc852124b35ff5a80e874f#/ref=sr_st?keywords=ips&qid=1326457394&rh=n%3A340831031%2Cn%3A!340832031%2Cn%3A428652031%2Ck%3Aips&sort=price

And although I am looking at reviews for them at tftcentral.com. I would greatly appreciate if you can suggest me 2 or 3 from the list within £180. Thanks :)
