need help deciding cpu
my comp is mainly used for gaming, especially cpu intensive games like total war and arma2

the two best cpu that my mobo support is Phenom II X4 945 95w and
Athlon II X4 640

i was wondering which one is the better choice, the 945 usually cost about $150 and the 640 usually cost about $100, however some comparison charts shows that the 945 is only a few fps (1-5) better than the 640 when gaming, so is it wise to spend the extra $50 to get the 945???

some article suggest that the 945 is better since its a phenom brand and has a L3 cache, however im not really sure what it means and i need as much opinion as possible before i buy, preferably this weekend.

so please leave suggestions on which one to choose, i don't plan on overclocking the cpu so which one is the best bang for the buck???

The Athlon is the better option in your case.

thx guys, looks like the athlon is the better choice

my current cpu is AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz

i don't really plan on overclock so upgrading to 640 is gonna give a significant boost right?

i might plan on spending the extra 50 on a new mobo

Upgrading to the athlon would give you a huge boost, even though it is clocked the same as your 6000+ the 640 is faster per clock and also has 4 cores which would benefit it even more in applications that are multithreaded.
