I am hesitating between the following options:

http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?lg=en§ion=1&group=1&product=8193&part=8283#spectop

http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?lg=en§ion=1&group=1&product=8195&part=8277#spectop

http://www.gateway.com/systems/compare/compare_results.php

Ideally there should be a good price to performance ratio and I'd like to run moderate games (maybe run Bioshock on low settings. Running Oblivion okay would be ideal though)

Also, as low as possible, but I can go up to 1 300 $ if I have to...

Thanks in advance :D

Play, or play well? I would imagine it could run on minimum settings, any graphics chip update will increase performance and the 8800GT chip is fairly solid, though don't expect the performance to be completely on par with the desktop version. If it's gaming you are after then a laptop is definitely not the way to go as a good one generates a lot of heat, takes a lot of power and to be used to full effect requires you to have them plugged in most of the time, in effect turning it into a desktop PC anyway.

Well I'm comparing specs with very high end games, but I'd like to run Oblivion at low/medium settings. I'm not going to be traveling with it a whole lot, it's just I don't have room for another desktop. So I'd like a laptop than can run games to aren't too taxing on the resources or are a few years old.

I'm really looking to get those posted above, or a Dell XPS. I'd like to know what would be the best choice.

:) thanks for the help so far, and thanks in advance for the help coming up :D

Sager makes the dell xps, dell just puts their sticker on it. Also there is no real nessacary card for oblivion. With a combo of changing the .ini, 3d Analyzer and oldblivion mod, you can run oblivion with 30fps med settings, on a intel GMA 950. but no laptops now a days run a 950. at $1300 you can get a laptop with 4gb ram and a nvidiat 8800gsm which can make oblivion without any mods what so ever.

I'll look into it...

What can a 384MB Graphics Media Accelerator do ?

What about a 256 MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 ?

Or a 1340 MB Mobile Intel GM45 Express ?

Which one is best ? (Note that the Intel Express one comes with a more or less equal, yet cheaper computer)

Assuming the Graphics Media Accelerator is made by Intel, probably the Radeon. A Sager or Dell XPS is a good choice, also Asus make some nice gaming laptops.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go for a Sager. Thx allot :D

Just one last question: is there muchof a difference between the 512MB Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT and the 256MB Nvidia Geforce 9300M GS ? Cuz if both are really powerful cards then I'd go for th 9300 since it would put less of a strain on my budget (I'm a 16 year od earning minimum wage at 15 hours a week, 1300$ is a s**t of dough :P)

Yes there is. A 9600M GT can run Crysis and Oblivion on High settings, and the 9300 would struggle to run both on low.

Nope. they use systems based on Clevo and Compal systems just like dell and a lot of others...

OP: I would go with a name brand reseller. Gateway has the best value gaming machine on the market right now, but i wouldn't go with a smaller vendor. Ive heard horror story's about support... also...

If you're budget is around $1300, then I'd suggest picking up the Gateway P7811FX. It's pretty much the best gaming laptop you're going to find for under $2k. 9800m GTS, 4GB DDR3 RAM, core 2 duo @ 2.26 GHz (upgradable if you want something better), 1920x1200 resolution 17" screen...the only drawbacks to it are the small HDD (200GB) and the lack of bluetooth, a fingerprint reader, and blu-ray. I got it back when it was released in August (then got a price match when it went on sale a week later, so I snagged it for $1250) and I can say it kicks ass. With some cvar tweaking I can get Crysis maxed out (no AA) at 1280x800 resolution with an average of 30 FPS. If you're looking for an affordable gaming laptop, that's the one to get.

Man the huge ass resolution kills it for me =/ Why not go with 1440x900 for a laptop like that one? Jesus christ. It must suck to play at 1280x800 there no? Either the screen is too small, or it's stretched out horriby. Reminds me of the Asus G70. 1920x1200 when the cards can't even cope with 1680x1050.

What about a NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS how good is that one compared to the 9600M GT ?

It would come with this laptop: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10107470&catid=26955&PCName=laptop_800_999&logon=&langid=EN

It has had bad reviews but it still looks like a good PC to me. Thoughts ?

I'm also looking around the Gateway Website to see if I can't find that previous, awesome laptop there

a 9500M GS is aproximatly the same as a 8600gt. can run crysis on low and oblivion maxed. but the 9600M GT is about 30% more powerful.

and the Gateway that has a 9800m GT is about 30% more powerful than a 9600m GT

But this one is one of the best i have fourd. a peryn processor, 320gb HDD, 4gb RAM, and a 9800M GT.http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9050279&type=product&id=1218012519873

Well, the laptop can run everything I play on it at 1920x1200 except for Crysis and Warhead. And in the event that I need to use a lower resolution it does have VGA and HDMI outputs so I can just have the video output to my 1280x1024 monitor instead. But to be honest it really isn't that bad playing at 1280x800 on it. The worst thing that happens is that the picture is a bit blurry, but I didn't see much of a difference when I hooked it up to my lower res monitor anyway. Also, I could probably play crysis on 1440x900 for a less blurry picture but for some reason only the Crysis benchmark offers that resolution, not the actual game (next highest 16:10 resolution offered in the game after 1280x800 is 1600x1050 which knocks me down from an average of 30 FPS to an average of 20 FPS).

If you have a friend who lives in the US you could get them to buy it and ship it to you. Or use a shopping service. I've heard of people from Europe, Jamaca, and Africa getting their hands on this thing so it's defnitely possible if you really want it.

Not only does Gateway not ship to Canada, the P7811FX isn't even mentionned on their website e.e

But I'm going to buy the Acer Aspire. It has a 16" screen, a blue-ray/DVD/CD Drive, 4 GB of DDR2 RAM and a Nvidia GeForce 9500M GS, so it can run Crysis (albeit not on high settings). All that for 999$ Canadien. Good Rig, Good Price, and I don't even have to pay for shipping since I can just buy it at my local store.

the difference in performance between the P7811FX and that acer is massive. DDR3 to DDR2, peryn to last gen processor, 9800m gts to 9500mgs( equivilent to 8600m), and probably much lower screen resolution

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26660754
It Saying that You Should go for Any centrino 2 that as Vista + ATI mobiltiy Radeon inside
Because ATI DID recently Bough from Stealthy move.. a WAY for Laptop user who use centrino 2
To Switch there RAdeon for a far better Card Examples If you'r having a ATI 3870 ? But you watn a X2 ? Or HD4850 mobility
Well you can now. without buying a new laptop ain't that nice ?
http://www.3dgameman.com/content/view/13840/82/

this is meaning you guy can go from like this
» Mobility Radeon HD 3870 X2
»
Mobility Radeon HD 3850 X2
» Mobility Radeon HD 4850
» Mobility Radeon HD 3870
» Mobility Radeon HD 3850
