so i've been thinking of buying a laptop for sometime, basicly something dependable that i can organize my notes from my dorm room computer but still be able to do the things i want it to. basic functions like good for downloading movies and a dvd/r burner, able to sync ipod stuff and hold all my pictures and movies(general hardrive space?).im not serious about gaming on my laptop other than games like starcraft and warcraft games, or maybe run games like simcity ans the sims at decent speed. would that be spending the extra bit? but i would always love to have that option to run a little more high end-stuff. theiur are a few other programs i would like to run on it as well like guitar pro, video editor, and and DVD playback.

this would be my first own personal computer but if someone could point me in the direction of a computer i'm looking for, then i could really go out on my own to shop around. but what sort of specs am i going to need on this laptop? what's a decent brand or what kind of CPU and GPU am i looking at? Harddrive? Vista or xp? obviously i dont know nearly enough i should to go out and buy the laptop i need and if anyone could post some recommended specs or show me a laptop im looking for that would be great. I'm looking for something more dependable than cheap ($600-$800 price range if possible) but i'm totally open for any suggestions like go for the extra dollar becuase i havent set a budget yet.  Thanks alot:D

Just a warning, don't bump your threads so soon, it's considered disruptive. As for the laptop, there was a recent thread about it, so you might want to use the search function to find reference materials. Anyway, this thread has 2 links for good laptops. http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=25657248
