Would really appreciate some advice/assessment on a new gaming/video editing rig i'm building.

--------

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Price: $180
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103771

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-M55SLI-S4 Socket AM2 Price: $79
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128321

Video Card: EVGA e-GeForce 8500GT 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Price: $98
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125062

Memory: A-DATA 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Price: $81
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820211066&ATT=20-211-066&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch

-------

My current PSU is 350W, but i'm definitely open to upgrading to a more powerful one.

I'm trying to keep the Video Card very close to or under $100 and would like it to have DX10 capability, but if the 8500GT want deliver a good gaming experience, then what would be an good alternative? I can live without DX10 for now if i have to.

Thank you in advance for any and all help.

In answer to your video card question, the 7600GT is a great DX9 card. It probably won't be very good for upcoming games for long though. I've had mine for a few months now and it's serving me well. I can max out C&C 3, and that's all I want. :D

The 8500GT is a very weak card, comparable to a 7600GS.

At least grab an 8600GT.

No... it's weak as a 7600GS.. perhaps a little better but not by much.

The 8600GT is about 20-25% faster than a 7600GT though.

Ya you need a better GPU, buy a Evga 7900gs for around $150 and use their step up program to grab a 8600gts in a couple months. CPU is more then fine, with a slight overclock it is just as capable as on overclocked e4300.

Uhh.. getting a 7900GS and using the step up program to get an 8600GTS is not smart at all. The 7900GS outperforms the 8600GTS, so why would he want to downgrade? It'd be better to use the step up program and grab an 8800GTS 320MB or so.

How does the step-up program work?  I've got an eVGA 7900GS and I would love a 8800GTS in the future. Would they take a 7900GS in the program in a year or two?

Thank all of you for the prompt and very informative responses. I think i'm going to go with the

EVGA 256-P2-N624-AR GeForce 7900GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 KO Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130056

The EVGA step up program seems to be a pretty good deal.

Thank you again.

Some general information on eVGA's step up program. http://evga.com/stepup/default.asp The step up program is only usable within 3 months of your original purchase. You can only use it once though.
