Well this is a PC Gaming discussion area I realize but I recently got a trojan on my computer (virtundo or something like that) that is taking away from my gaming..

I'm looking for a free trojan remover that can get my computer up and running so I can play some games!

I recommend this website: http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1046 . The thread at the top is what I used to set up a secure computer when I got mine, and lists may software programs for removal of viruses/malware. That top one is all legit, safe download locations and everything. As for the rest, well, just read what people have to say.

Give Avast a try.

Also give Spy bot a try.

Both are free, I believe that they're the most highly used, I've never gotten a virus with them.

Is it virtundo or virtumundo?

The name makes a difference.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware It's free, light, and does a good job of finding and removing nasty malware. After that, I'd recommend running Avast just for the added coverage. I haven't run into an anti-virus software that is able to find every virus, but doubling up seems to resolve this issue.

Install Ad-aware, Spybot, CCleaner + AV of your choice (AVG, Avast etc)

Update all of these

Boot into safe-mode (When u start the computer hit F8 until you come to a menu, choose safe-mode)
Scan with all of these

If that doesnt get it then youll have to go manually

If it's Virtumonde or related to it, you probably are going to have to get rid of it manually.

Thanks for the replies..I'll keep you updated..I'm using Malwarebytes's anti-malware for now but I may have to do it "manually" which I've been doing some research on..I'm not too tech savy but I hope to figure it out..I'll post if I have any more questions

well what i would do is find the exact name. Type it in google and then find what other people have recommended to remove it. Generally avast or alike and Malware Bytes will do the trick. If not, run these programs in safe mode if they are able to. All the best.

I used Avast and it got rid of the promblem. Yet it could be at a low stage which means it wont actually harm your computer but will keep popping up, just let it carry on and aslong as you dont go on any explicit ;) material you'll be fine. But if its at a higher stage yet avast

You sir are now the pride owner of the Vundo Virus, we just got hit with it at my work and we have been busy cleaning it out. This virus attaches itself to Winlogon and explorer.exe so everytime you reboot it buries itself again in memory. The Virus itself is actually located in the Windows/system32 folder and it appears as random numbers and letters like cdfd499596.dat or something along those lines. We use McAfee enterprise Anti-Virus software here and it totally bombed on removing it and we just ended up re-imaging all the machines. So as far as our IT department knows there is no "practical" software side of things to removed, almost have to boot into a recovery console and remove the whole directory at once and kill it

Yea ive had this virus b4 and here is how u would delete it. Download malwarebytes anti malware like u said u had and then boot ur comp in safe mode and then do a full scan of ur system with that program. U can also do it in normal mode but u want to be sure coz sumthing in normal mode it sometimes only deletes part of the virus.
