I would appreciate any help on this one.

I have a 250 Gig HD partitioned into 3 drives. My windows (C: drive) is 10 gigs and the other 2 are 120 Gigs each. I did the partitioning with WinXP during installation of the OS when the comp was just built. Well, i didn't realize i'd need more than 10 Gigs of space for my Windows drive when I did this (had just got XP for first time).

I would like to add to the size of the partition of C by taking some away from one of the other 2 partitions. I tried extending the drive through the command prompt as WinXP help shows how to do, but as it also said, it doesn't work on the boot drive.

Is there a way I can borrow from one of the other 2 partitions to add to my C partition?

I've heard of Partition Magic and before anyone goes there, I'm hoping there's a way to do this without having to buy any software. Otherwise, ya, if Partition Magic can do the job, I guess I'd have to purchase it or whatever software could actually accomplish this task.

Any and all help and direction would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

You can try a free partition manager like EASEUS but I have never tried it myself so can't confirm that it works well; I used Partition Magic in the past to do exactly what you want and it did the job perfectly so you might want to spend the $ just to be safe...

Just make, make sure that you backup all of your important data before you try extending the partition. As the old saying goes, if something can go wrong, it probably will. No to dissuade you :P, but it's always better to be safe then sorry.

Thanks guys for the input. Ya, i have all my data backed up on a second drive anyways, so that's not a worry. I would be more frustrated if something went wrong and i had to re-install everything, just because of the time it would take. I'll wait for a few more suggestions if there are any forthcoming, after that, i'll install partition magic i guess. I "think" i have an older version of it around here somewhere, should be recent enough to work on XP. Not sure though, gonna have to look through the myriad of CDs i have with old programs backed up on them. LOL.

Is there any other way to accomplish this without using Partition Magic? Or is this looking like my best and only option?

I found a free partition manager but it didn't work :? I ended up getting Disk Director.
