HELP! just finished building my first gaming pc but...

alright so i just put everything all together and plugged it in, problem is when i press the power button. the LEDs and fans start up for about a second then they just shut off, im gussing i got my wiring wrong or something but would anyone have an idea of what it could possibly be? it doesnt even start up

I had a similar problem on my first start-up, scared teh hell out of me
for me it ended up being I was using the wrong PCI-E Power bus plug, there were a few options, the 4-, 6-. and 8-pin plug on a 8-prong socket. If that sounds familiar try different combinations, Mine ended up being just the 4 plugs.
you should also try it with just one stick of RAM in just your primary RAM slot, try each stick individually to see if you have a bad stick

if niether of those work, come back for more advice...

if you have a high-end card there will be a cable that goes from the mobo to the video card directly, which is also a PCI-E Poeer cable
The one I'm refering to goes from the PSU directly to teh mobo.

Try out the solutions mentioned. If they don't work, you can also check and make sure the the wiring between the Power Switch (power button) and the jumpers on the motherboard aren't reversed.
