hi guys well i had another account but something happned to it so meh. But anyway my friend recently got wireless internet on his computer and had some wierd antivirus system (spybot search and destroy anyone know it is it good?) And sure enough somehow he got a crap load of viruses and stuff. We disconnected his internet but right clicking on the icon on the bottom right hand corner of the screen and clcked disable so he wouldn't get any more for now. Well he got a new antivirus system a few days ago (trend micro internet security PRO) and we set it up and ran it but he still gets random messages.

So now he is constantly getting message say you have a virus fix it now and windows has detected an internet attack (when he isn't even connected to the internet) and other messages that minimize his games. To top it all off we can't reconnect his internet. We go to network settings and press enable on the connection but it just says "cable not connected or something like that.

So heres my questions:

Is there anyway you know how to reconnect his internet (wireless he is using a desktp with Xp service pack 2)

Are there any ways to stop these message minimizing our games ( we can't play cod4 as it dpoesn't even pause when this happens ) The messages pop up about every minute or so

Are there any ways to get rid of these viruses

Thankyou for any response and im sorry about long post and not many specifics as it is his computer not mine

Btw please keep information simple as niether him nor i are very technically advanced.

Thanks!

spybot is good, but its not an anti virus software it's simply a spyware program. Trend micro is good, but not every anti virus software will remove everything. Depending on what you have I recommend doing complete scans with trend micro, spybot, adware search & destroy. Depending on how bad it is you may or may not be able to get them all. Try running in safe mode as well.

If you can't stop them then your going to have to reinstall windows.

Make sure that the Messenger Service is turned off. Here are the steps:
- Goto the Control Panel
- Open Performance and Maintenance
- Open Administrative Tools
- Open Services
- Make sure that the Messenger service is Disabled
- If it isn't, right click on it and do a Properties
- Set the Startup to Disabled

Spybot is free, just download it from the website. Ad-Aware personal edition is free as well, I would also install that. Both programs use very little resources, so it wont hurt anything.

fist is his wireless turned on?

second do a "site survey" and make sure he is connecting to HIS router

third make sure he is using the proper access code to connect.

This can all be achieved from within the wireless cards tray applet. If you do not see this then try starting the service through the start menu.
