Don't just say that tell me what is wrong with my set up.

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 5000 71$ (Sould go for something a little faster)
Generic Case and 450W PSU: 135$
Mobo: ASUS M2N-MX 58$
RAM: Corsair 2GB DDR2-800 58$
HD: WD 250GB CAVIAR 7,200RMP 35$
GPU: Geforce 8600GT 83$ (holly crap they still recomend a 8600GT, that's crap get a 9800GTX, they go for 170$)
Total: 460$ (547$ with the GTX)

That is actually a good rig... except for the motherboard.
It definetly change it for something different.
Later you can use some hybrid crossfire to gain more performance. :)
[QUOTE="Angry_Bosmer"]This CPU is fine.

Dont treat him like that, he doesnt deserve it :P
Anyway, i think its too expensive for the budget, if he wants Intel definetly E7200 its also a amazing overclocker too! :)
nah it not hard. so what build your getting ? the one posted previous or going intel ?
need benchmark to know cpu power ? and if you miss lack you can go to some random pc store that as a shop they should know how to assemble comptuer they may charge you few bucks. but alot of user are able to build there pc
as long you follow guide the most stressfull part is only putting cpu & motherboard together and it quite easy
if you want to increase durabiltiy of your componoent and cooling effifancy use ARtic Sivler 5 Thermal Gease For only 5$ small tube to 11$ long tube for extra In case. il show you the website how ever that show how to build pc.
http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/13671/1
there other simialr ythat show step to step . it just give you a idea. a woman did that XD So you should be able ;)marcthpro
I think im going with the amd because I'm already over budget. Also, sorry if this is a noob question but do I need a internet card or anything?

Not if you are connected an ethernet cable directly to your PC. There will be a port for that on the motherboard.
This CPU is fine.

Not at that price it's not. For that kind of money (even fake Canadian money) you can get an E8400.
only if you can use ur old hag ide wich i would not recommand harvest money or someting. i bet you can do it ;)marcthpro
Sell your organs. $$$$$?
Also does any one see any way to cut down the price at all?Johnny-Quest
Instead of trying to gimp yourself with substandard parts you should be asking yourself "How do I get more money?"
And anyhow... if you're shopping at newegg.com or it's ilk you don't need all the money at the same time. Buy a processor today, a graphics card in a few weeks when you've gotten another paycheck, etc. etc. This way even someone on welfare, let alone a healthy young lad like yourself, can afford a top of the line machine.

I'm just in a tight spot because I need a computer for college and this one that I originally bought for college is breaking down (never buying a dell again). I have about 600 saved up after tuition so this is the reason why I need to limit my self

Additionally note the the Antec 300 ships with 3 too few fans. So you'll need to pick up 3 120mm fans for those slots. It only comes with one on the back, and the 140mm on the top. The front fant ports are empty, as is the side panel.
Keep the HD4850, it's faster and cheaper than the 9800GTX. Don't know why that angry_dude recommended that card.matrixian
The 'angry_dude' recomended it because the performance difference is so minor that well...
Anyway 180$ is cheaper than the ATI, don't you think?
And Nvidia is more reliable than ATI (I know).

It gives him a idea, christ he can shop around himself.
$600 isn't enough to make a good enough gaming pc.Simsfreak14
Oh really, then how can I play all my games on high settings with a computer I bought last march for 600. Prices are even lower now. 600 for a tower is plenty for a good budget build.
Now if you need things like monitor, speakers, OS, keyboard, mouse, then 600 is not enough.

The TC had links to newegg, and you link him to tigerdirect.ca... Reading problems ?
The HD4850 is 155$ after MIR. angry_dude's math skills = FAIL.
HD4850 > 9800GTX (I know)
Ok I did some trimming. What about this build?
Tower
HD
Video Card
RAM
CPU
mobo
Plus vista, dvd burner and shipping it comes out to 579. Does this look good?

the 4850 is faster then the 9800 gtx and consumes less power and can be had for like 150$ on new egg.
