Ok, im a noob whenit comes to PC, but i still like to play some games, ( cod2 cod4 HL2 .......)

My current PC is :

ATI readon (ASUS) ax850xt 256mo ddr3 AGP 8x Platinum edition

P4 3.2 GHZ

ASUS P4P800 SE

quantum fireball 70go

1024 go ram

I want to go dual core and PCI express, obviously. I dont know if i should go for a AMD or Intel processor, and for a ATI Readon or NvidiaG-force video card. ALL I KNOW IS THAT I NEVER WANNA GO UNDER 60 FPS FOR GAMES LIKE COD4 DURING ACTIONS SP AND MP. !!!

So, ASUS x1950xt pci-e OR ASUS 8600GTS pci-e ???

dual core AMD athlon or Dual core Intel ???

Try to get a 8800gts, I dunno about those other cards.
Get an intel e4500 and overclock it, they overlock well, I think.

Intel Core 2 Duo range is what id reccomend for a new processor, and the x1950xt is the better card there. Though only DX9 if that makes a difference to you?

well i would strongly recommend AMD since the phenom is right around the corner (phenom will be a very powerful processor just thought i would let you know since you say your a noob)

and for the motherboard you should get this one it will support todays line of amd cpus and the phenom

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138081

as for which company for video cards i wou suggest ATI

the reason being is they have the 2900xt which competes with the gtx but the gtx is better but they will also be releasing the 2950 which is going to be a good card for a low prices they also have the 2900pro out and its pretty good and competes with the 8800gts and i think its better

2900xt - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102095

2900pro - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102707

For the motherboard you should get this one really nice reviews and if you want you can buy 2 cards this board allows crossfire (hase to be same card ex. two 2900pros dont not mix 2900pro and 2900xt)

uh oh put two motherboards

um get the biostar if you dont want a bios update when the phenoms come out

or get the asus if you want 2 cards in crossfire i would suggest the asus mobo (this board will require you to get a bios update in orderto get a phenom)

but hold on thier the phenom it will be awsome but a regular AMD x2 6000 (or amd x2 6400) will last you a while so whetever your decision is maybe you should but a 6000 and wait maybe a year later to buy a phenom

Well, i think i might invest in a Dx10 card, anyway, im only changing my PC around january 2008 so i have time to make my mind, but i think it would be a better choice to put a couple more hundred of dollars and get a new generation card. On the other hand, the only games i play for the moment use dx9 (cod 4 is only dx9). but i dont know, maybe i'll want to play crysis or some other dx10 games.

So theres the 8800gts and the 8800 gtx ? are they both Dx10 ??

and the 2900xt is it a dx10 card ? no ? the 2950 will be, right ?

ts kinda confusing, Video cards evolve so fast.

but thx for suggestion, im taking notes and ill look further.

All of ATI's 29xx cards are DX10 as well as all of nVidia's 88xx card.

All of the AM2 sockets will support phenom, they just won't have DDR3 or HT 3.0 support. The biostar board has AM2+ which supports HT 3.0 and not DDR3. The AM3 will support both. Unless something happans in the market in the next month, I will be getting the biostar - it seems like a good board.

You need a new motherboard obviously in order to get PCI-E slots. You should get a DirectX10 card in case in the future you want to move up to some great games that you absolutely can't resist (*Cough* Crysis; Bioshock *Cough*) and I think the 8600GTS is equivalent to the 2600XT which is a really great card for the price. It is way faster than the 8600GTS as well. Get it.
