Was wondering if I only play at resolution of 1280 highest so, i was wondering 800$ for a core 2 duo would be good enough for me to last for around 5 years? Not really a high end user but gaming is priority and i don't OC so should i go with this or wait for i5 or any current available part i could get to build? if the build i'm going below is fine could you reckon me a monitor for that resolution.

CPU: E8400
GPU 9800GTX
RAM 4 2x2 DDR 2 1066
600 Watts
Black Caviar 500GB
Gigabyte P45 UD3R Mobo

Predicting whether the setup you've listed will last 5 years and telling you what it will run at what resolution are two different stories, you can max out any game at 1280*1024/1440*900, and will play most games at high at 1650*1050. Who know's how that setup will run games like Alan Wake let alone how it will run games in 5 years time.

i wouldn't expect a Core 2 Duo to last 5 years. it won't be very long until games start needing at least a Core 2 Quad to run smoothly. in 5 years time, the Core 2 Duo will probably be as outdated as the Pentium 4 is now.

My pentium 4 runs all my games fine at decent settings,it's different when people try to have steady 60+ fps in all games. My games being f.e.a.r.,grid,cod4,cod5,even crysis on high at about 19 fps is smooth,at 1440x900.
