Hi guys.

First let me say that i'm not good with computers, at all.

I'm looking at upgrading my Processor. My current one is a Intel P4 3.4Ghz sitting on a ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe motherboard. A

A friend told me you should be looking into getting Dual Core Processors in the near future, as it's taking games to a new level.

I asked my local PC shop about what i should be getting purely for gaming. He gave me advice on which ones to pick however i can't remember them, tbh i didn't even understand what he was saying lol.

He also told me that my Motherboard didn't support Dual Core which sucks, i got the motherboard just 6 months ago. So now i have to upgrade my Mother Board to something that supports Dual Core + grabbing 2 new gaming processors.

I looked up AMD Processors but was quickly confused, it gave me a whole list with diffrent ones. Diffrent Sockets etc - i didn't understand any of it. It was 64Bits and 32Bits and all sorts, got me confused.

Also i'm looking at getting Vista mainly becouse my GFX card supports DX10 ( Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS 320mb ) but i don't know which one is best suited for gaming. And do i need 32 or 64bits version?

Confused gamer here. Any help appreciated!

Well, i have no budget in mind. But will it help you if i say i'd like to play Crysis on everything maxed? I know my 2GB ram will probably prevent that from happening, but you get the picture. I'm after something that would not make me need to upgrade again for a very long time.

You have 2 gigs of ram? Thats enough memory for any gaming system, I suggest that you should buy a cheap p35 motherboard, Gigabyte as a great range to offer. And a core 2 duo processor which is at the very least 2.0GHZ.

Hi again.

I did some research and i found this

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz Socket AM22MB

it says it supports Dual-Core. Is this any good? Do i need 2 of these then?

and how can i tell if a motherboard supports this processor?

you need an am2 motherboard to support that cpu, and no you dont need another one, that is a dual core cpu, so its two cores in one die

I would recommend you buy a console, or a prebuilt with the help of a knowledgeable friend. I think you would be happier in the end.

Alright i got it. One last question though. That processor

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz Socket AM22MB

is only on 3ghz while my intel p4 is on 3.4. Isn't this one downgrade then? :S
