i have a E6320 run at 1866 Mhz and i try to overclock it to about 2400 Mhz

I run it on a gigabyte motherboard and i use 2x1GB

First time ever? Well, it will be a long read and probably confusing, but you can search on Google for a lot of beginner tutorials.

What's your power supply anyways?

It isn't a 'dumb idea', just as long as you read up A LOT, you'll be fine. There are plenty of overclocking guides out there and forums if you run into trouble.
