I just bought a new computer, with the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition processor. And the default fan that comes along sounds like a helicopter taking off. Playing games like Mass Effect really isn't enjoyable when you hear that really annoying noice all the time! I'm going to buy a new fan, and it MUST be quiet.

Can you give me tips on CPU fans to buy? No suggestions on "GET LIQUID COOLING" please, I want a fan and that's that.

You're planning to just replace the fan? Might as well replace the stock heatsink also. I suggest you look into an hyper 212+, its cheap ($30), and great. It can handle overclocking too.

Why not get a Corsair H50 or H70?, it's a very quiet and perfoms amazing. Technancally it it 'water cooling', but not near the hassle of putting together a custom water cooling setup

H70: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181013

H50:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181010&cm_re=h50-_-35-181-010-_-Product

And if you're content on just using a fan, then a nice Thermltake Frio should do some good(very cheap too):http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106150

There are a ton of good cooler out there, it's just a matter of searching for it and then looking for some reviews on it.

^those are some heavy duty coolers though. If hes not doing some extreme overclocking those are excessive and overkill.

Thats true, though he didn't clarify if he overclocks or not, so i just assumed he wanted a quiet and great performing cooler.

Plus the Frio and H50 are pretty cheap, nothing wrong with an extra drop in temps for a stock CPU at those prices.

Their Corsair WC kits not that heavy duty their not that good as normal WC systems. You can spend less on a good air cooler and perform about the same as those Corsair WC kits. The Hyper 212+ nearly performs as well as the H50 when you add another fan to the Hyper 212+ to do the push/pull fan setup.

One draw back to those corsair WC kits is that their all self contained which means if the pump dies your cpu is SOL,

Well heavy duty as in for overclockers and expensive. I know the H50 doesnt perform too well compared to air coolers around the same price, but I thought the H70 changed that with its bigger raditior, I didnt read about the H70 upon release so I dunno about its performance.

TC, I really know what you mean...My AMD stock HSF on load sounded like my hair dryer.

I'd recommend the HSF I have now. I can't even hear it when I run Prime95 - and even then the temperature doesnt exceed 50C. It's amazing for only $30.

H50 is pretty much a ripoff if you already have a big case that can fit similar performing air coolers at a much lower price. Also, my h50 have this squealing sound from the radiator, so it is not exactly quiet.

I'm not an overclocker and I'm not interested in doing it. I'm also not interested in extreme cooling either, I just want decent cooling, but most important, it MUST be quiet. That's the main priority.
