can you help me with all these questions which i have;; i must make one desicion and i want to know what to do is very importantdimitris2012

No-one can help you because no-one can predict the future, the next consoles might come out tomorrow or they might come out in 10yrs. I would wait till June and see how the AMD chips do and decide then.

I will most likely upgrade my rig to a ivy bridge or those when they release, if they are good.

Like they've said, we don't know. Given the progression from dual core to quad core over the last 5 years in the PC market, it's likely to be a similar transition to hexa- and octo-core processing. But with one caveat - quad core processing has only become "the norm" (and that's doubtful) in the last year or two, and most games can work on a dual core processor, currently.

Sandy/Ivy Bridge and Bulldozer change the market again since they're APUs, but how much that will help, we don't know. The next series of GPUs may mean that APUs are a nice, but not necessary, addition to a rig. They're likely to become the norm, but not for a good 4 or 5 years, which also means several improvements to the instruction sets and speed will happen in that time.

There is always a lag between specifications of games and current hardware - very few people keep their rigs up to date on a yearly basis, so it take 3 or more years for any given technology (DX11, APUs, DDR3 etc etc) to penetrate the market and become viable for a minimum specification on a piece of software.

Get a quad-core, 6GB RAM with an Nvidia 5xx or AMD 6xxx series GPU. It will last at least 4, if not 5 years.

Man,those threads make me laught so much... I could write anything and he would still ask the same thing over and over WE DON'T KNOW. We can't tell the future, but the 8 core will most likely hold you longer than the 4 cores, with a graphic card update

You can't future proof, get a 4 or 6 core now and in 3 yrs upgrade.

I guess you will be able to max out any game with a quad-core for the next five years. The developers are not going to write for hatdware that few people can afford. Once the price of 8-core chips comes down, and they become commonplace, then look for games to use them, not before. Get a fast quad-core now, although most games don't need all that much CPU. CPU is for video rendering and stuff like that. The GPU handles the graphics.

Your OS does this automatically when you update. The CPU drivers shouldn't need updating, anyhow, and they shouldn't affect performance. These driver are just a way for the OS to manipulate the CPU in real time---for power conservation, for instance. The CPU itself would work just as well with no drivers. What operating sysem are you running, and what CPU do you have?

Octo-core CPU's are not quite out yet and there is not a game in this planet which will actively use six cores, let alone eight. So from the gamer's point of view octo core is an enormous overkill even had it released now.But if want an Intel Gulftown (980X)or the Phenom II X6 1100 are the CPU you can get right now if you don't want waiting for Intel 8 cores or AMD Bulldozer CPU to show up.I can't dare to predict the future, but I can assume to say these 2 CPU's are going to be sufficient for the 4 years atleast, maybe 5 if you can give em a small overclock.

Since 8 cores aren't officially reviewed or benchmarked anywhere I am afraid none can comment on their longevity. But they will be long term investments,if one can buy them and will surely not outdate easily esp. for gaming since games are more GPU oriented.
