Personally I would get the 8800 GT. Gamespot has a nice benchmark set for the card and if I remember correctly it is around 250-300$.

What is your current CPU? You don't want to go buy some awesome video card that your CPU can't handle fully and end up with bottlenecking.

With your Price range you are stuck with a middle of the road 8800 GTS 320mb http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082 , but if I were you I would save +$50 for the video card and get a 2900 Pro 512mb for $350+shipping http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102707 Anyway you'll have a good system. Have you thought of Buying anther 7900? and SLIing two cards? The new ATi cards are coming in mid November, maybe you should wait for them?

do not buy another 7900 either....why buy a dead card? dx10 is comming in a tidal wave right now with like 8 games before christmas that use it, besides that youll be using vista ultimate 64 bit in no time because 32 bit is dying too.....just go with a 250 dollar 8800GT and youll be just fine!

Direct x 10 is only compatible with vista------as far as I know....

Ati is coming out with newer Cards SOOONNER than Nvidia, this November, and to top that off is a New Amd motherboard, the 790fx and the Amd Phenom quad core processors which are far better than Intels, despite the fact it will probably have a slower clock speed. Nvidia is for cartoons, Ati is for realism

Can you please take your ignorant opinions else where? nVidia already released their G92 set (the 8800GT) and with current benchmarks being performed, the GT's able to rival the performance of the GTX and possibly Ultra. Also, if nVidia is for cartoons, why is nVidia playing a big role in development for Crysis... one of the most realistic games to date; and ATI is struggling with their drivers?

If you go here, http://www.futuremark.com/community/halloffame/3dmark06/, you will see that the 2900xt in crossfire holds 4 of the top 5 in 3dmark06.

I would say the ATI is doing pretty well...

For your price range NVIDIA is really the only choice. 8800GT or 8800GTS would be perfect. Good luck finding the 8800GT though.

Here are all the DirectX 10 cards for the upper end of your price range...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048+4018&srchInDesc=DirectX+10&name=%24200+-+%24300

Newegg is your friend!

Good luck!

To the post above about ATI having 4 of the top 5 3dmark scores...WHO CARES? My friends 2 320 meg GTS's get 14,800 and my GTX only gets 12,500 and even when his SLI is enabled IN GAME I can get settings he can only dream of and run faster at those settings.....ATI is dead, forget about an ATI card. And yes you will need vista for dx10, go ahead and get it because support for XP stops in just a few months!
