Why you don't want vista? If you have over 4gigs of ram, going with XP 64 is a bad idea You could still consider Windows 7...

I agree with this. Like the other guy said you could play games on Ubuntu but it is harder to set up and they don't always run as well.

go to the microsoft home page and download yourself a free legal copy of windows 7 64-bit and burn it to a dvd. it'll last till next year when the real thing comes out.

Windows 7 has DX 11 and 10 support, if im correct. Yes thats right, DX 11. Id go with Rc1 64bit. and I would reccomend vista. If you get Sp1 and service pack 2 beta, remove user account and then remove all the limitations and secutriy features, its a really good os. and all that takes maybe an hour or 2. Besides i agree with the no xp, in september XP will be discountinued from new releases from msoft. Ex..drivers etc. and ubuntu is pretty nice, but only if you want a big os control. its not the most user firndly, but if you dont mine typing in codes to open things, i 100% reccomend ubuntu. Either way, 7,vista or ubuntu

OK how can anyone help you if you've already eliminated Vista, there's not many other worthy OS's out there so Vista seems like the only logical choice if you wanna enjoy DX10 like the rest of us with DX10 compaqtible cards. Dive in tio Vista it's not as bad as people say, they're just typical Microsoft haters.

This, you're stuck, it doesn't make sense to get XP so late now that 7 is almost out and same thing with Vista.

I blame Mac for their smear campaign against Windows. Vista is a GREAT operating system. After all of those ads, everyone things that windows is awful and cannot work properly, while myself and many others have been using Vista hassle free since its release. You're being lied to: Microsoft works. Accept it.

As others have stated: Get Windows 7 RC for free, and use it until march next year. Then either buy or switch to Linux. (If W7 is not your thing, Vista is not an option, and XP is not for sale anymore). Of course, if gaming is your thing, W7 is basically the only choice. Gaming is hard on Linux.

No, that isn't a rumor. Unfortunately it's only for those who buy July 1st.

Never had a problem because of Vista, gaming or non gaming. It has some annoying features but they can be overlooked.

Ok, what company do you expect to be heavenly? They may be evil but what Operating System are you using right now? Exactly, probably XP.

either vista or wait for win7, buying xp now is a really dumb idea. ms will dump support for it once win7 comes out. on a gaming pc vista run fine with no issues. xp is only better if you have a pentium 4 with 1gb ram or worse. any dual core cpu and 2gb ram vista is the better option.

You said No vista so what other options do you have other than Windows XP? Ubuntu? I can't recommend anyone purchasing a 10 year old OS. Vista is much better.
