Hello all, I'm new to gamespot and I just built my first rig. I REALLY need help. This is a bit of a long story, but I think its relevant. I built my computer a week ago and loaded windows XP 64-bit on it and everything was fine and dandy. I started updating my drivers and eventually realized i had no audio. I went into my bios to see what was going on and I meddled a bit. Nothing big, but I just enabled my audio driver. When I restarted my computer it went to verifying dmi pool data, and then went over to a black screen when windows XP should have been starting up. I inserted the XP CD and tried loading it off the disk but it wouldnt let me. Last night, my friend (who knows more about computers) came over and tried to fix it, and couldnt. He was successfull however in installing Vista on my computer instead. It worked like a dream and everything checked out and was running perfectly. No problems with any of my hardware. This morning I stupidly decided to see if i could get a stable overclock on my CPU. I put it at 3.0 (9x 333). When i went to restart my computer, the same thing happened as when i enabled my audio driver. Now vista wont start up, it goes to the windows error recovery screen where I can choose to start in safe mode, but when i do, my monitor turns off and on and then it restarts the system all over again. When i try to start the system normally, it says: "windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt." I tried booting from the vista CD to repair my computer, and it loads the files, but it stops when the little green vista loading bar appears and goes to a blue screen saying "windows has been shut down to prevent damage to my computer." Then it goes on saying stuff about new hardware possibly being the problem. I just bought this system and I really want it to work. I really need anyone who thinks they might know whats going on to respond. I'm just learning computer stuff, so I'm pretty freaked out, and I dont want to have to spend MORE money. It seems like whenever I open my Bios, it destroys the operating system or something. I'm thinking about taking the whole system apart and putting it back together just in case i did something wrong. It worked perfectly fine when first started up and everything was installed though so I dont think its the hardware. Is it possible I have some bios settings messed up? PLEASE HELP!! System Specs (in case this helps): CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 RAM: 4GB Patriot (2x2GB) 800mhz mobo: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R GPU: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850 HDD: 1TB Western Digital WD10EACS

...roll back your CPU overclock (put it at stock settings) and reinstall vista
