Hey guys I'm looking to get a gaming laptop, anyone have a recommendation for one I can get for $1,100 or less? It doesn't have to be the absolute best, but I'm looking for something that will play Oblivion and Fallout on high settings.

You can get a good gaming laptop for $400? Would I have to build it myself? Cause when I mess with expensive equipment it tends to break and I really don't want to put the laptop together myself.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=12347230 I got this laptop 2 days ago and I have to say its awesome! I can play Fallout 3 on ultra 1600x900 with an acceptable fps (it gets slow sometimes when a lot of smoke appears but the rest it looks awesome!!) i can play dead space also on full and that one plays at an awesome fps rate.Left 4 dead 2,rfactor and grid have a flawless fps rate.

I don't get the point of gaming laptops, do you really need to be playing UT3 on the go? I mean, how do you carry 17in laptops? If even to school? You'll look like a tool. (I can tell you from personal experience :P 17in asus laptop omg) Now I bought a netbook and a 13.3in dell vostro, vewy nice. Desktop for power, laptop for work and such.

I'm going into the Air Force soon so I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling. I don't like the idea of travelling with a PC cross-state(And occasionally internationally depending on where I get stationed) all the time.

I've done some travelling recently and haven't had that much trouble with my current p.o.s. 17 in. laptop. Does that inch and a half really make that much difference?

Just one last question:I've heard that certain games like Oblivion don't work well on dual processors or something like that. Is that true, and if so is it that big of a deal? Oblivion is one of the main reasons I want a gaming laptop.

There is also this laptop. Asus G71GX-RX05

Has a All the same specs as the gateway above, 260m, C2D P8700, 500gig HDD, and 1440x900 res. It is refurbished, but beleive me, from personal experience, refurb products might as well be new.

All that for $920, or 925.50 if you opt for the 2 day 5.49 shipping.

Very nice deal, except I'm unsure about the size :P Though if the TC has no problem with 17in laptops then go for it. But I will saw 15.4 inch laptops are noticeably smaller than 17inch ones.

Well for me, personally. I havent ever had much of a prob with 17" vs 15.4/6" as my very first laptop was 15.4, but still pretty big(it was from 2004 and bigger than most still at time).

I got a 17" gaming laptop earlier this year and its been great. Even just for around the house I love it, and really havent noticed it being too big. I have a small stand for it and it hangs off the edges, but still requires lots of force to knock off. So I'm constantly moving room to room with it. Either working on website stuff(which has been a lot lately, or just being able to have 2 gaming PCs in the house for when friends come over.

I get tons of use out of it even though the popular thing here is to not like gaming laptops. Which I should add, also during the summer my room stayed colder, which was so nice. Usually my gaming pc heats up my room to about 90f. With the gaming laptop, I barely ever see 86f :).

All-in-all, for me, If I'm going to own a laptop, might as well be a gaming one. Also, with that said, having a laptop as your very first pc means you become spoiled, and even with a desktop, I still feel the need for a laptop or I start to lose it. =P

Hmm, what I do is I take my netbook in my backpack, or my vostro 1310 (13.3in) and carry it with me to class everyday... I just slide it right out of my backpack, very nice. Cause it's so light :D

Pretty damn nice for $200 less. But I'm still a little put off on the refurbished thing. I've never used buy.com before, do they sell to you directly or is it more like ebay or craigslist?

I think its directly, certainly not like ebay or craigslist. I've bought tons of things from buy.com and they have always been good and reliable. Even a few times paid for my shipping back as I wasnt satisfied with my item($150 dollar mp3 player).

On the notebook review forums I've read about people buying refurb laptops(mainly the Gateways FX) but recently been reading some of the Asus G50/71 refurbs and they all seem to be coming in ok. For the most part, I'd say its safe to say you wont be able to tell its Not new.

If they change the chasis on a refurb, there is no way you can tell. I don't know if they do that however.
