Hi, i'm just building a new system, not a super gaming rig, but a machine to bring up to date. I have invested in a Q6600 Pro Quad core, 2 gigs of RAM and the trimmings. What i am stuck on though is the GFX card???
I dont want to splash out to much on a 8 series with the 9 series just around the corner claiming to be 3x as powerful? But i also dont want to get mugged on a 7 series that wont be able to play anything in a few month.
I'm torn between buying a 7900GTX 512 off ebay for around £130, or spend similar amount on a 8600GTS 256 or go that little bit better and get the 8800GT 320 for around £190???Ive looked on performance charts and its very close between the 7900GTX and the 8600GTS, but i dont want to spend £200 on something thats going to get owned by the 9 series budget cards?
Please help me, i'm at a loss!!! Xpert help needed.
But between the ones you are trying to decide from, I'd go with the 7900GTX. Better dx9 (than the 8600) performance for now. Then get a better dx10 (than the 8600) card when it becomes necessary.
go for 8600GTS which perform wll at resolution 1280x1024.X1950Pro is also a good deal but you are not going to get the directx 10 experience. If you plan to upgrade your graphic card within 8 months go for X1950 or 7900GTX which are very good for directX 9 gaming.
I would second the X1950PRO as a "stop-gap" card, having elected one myself. Beyond that, I would head over to Tom's Hardware, where they have a price performance chart, pick out the best card for your money, and then head on over to Newegg.
Best of luck.
You can get an ATI X1950Pro for about $137.
