Hi I just bought a power color 4850HD :D. But when i was going through the manual, it says it require 450 watt PSU but mine is 400 Watts (LPE223-400). so my question is can i use 400 watts or should i go for a new PSU ( im kind of short on budget as i just got 4850hd with my savings :( ). and please suggest for nice but low priced ones.

I picked up one of these along with my 4850: $22 485W PSU

Edit: Unfortunately, I don't think the OEM version of the PSU comes with the 6-pin power connector you need. My XFX card came a 6-pin adapter for PSUs without such, but your PowerColor card may not have...

I know your probably eager to use your new card, looking on google I can't seem to find any specifications for your psu you have currently, I see someone has already suggested buying a new psu, I would recommend this one Power Supply. Will be very good and hopefully be able to upgrade again sometime when you need to, OCZ are a good quality PSU maker, and by reading the customer reviews this thing is pretty good, runs a 4870 easily.

mine is "iball model:LPE223-400" and its written "ATX Switching Power Supply" under the Model AC INPUT is mentioned as 230 VAC 50/60 Hz Under the +12V its written as 17A and under the -12V its 0.8A dont know how many of u know about this company, but it manufactures many computer components here in india. so , is it a must to have greater than 450 Watt psu??

The main question would be does the power supply have a PCI-Express 6-pin power connnector?, what card do you have in the machine currently?

but I would highly suggest buying a more powerful power supply, because there's a good chance that your current power supply will be under-powering the card.

You can try, and it probably will work........the question is for how long. And there is also the chance that the PSU will die, taking some of your components with it. The longer you run on a crappy PSU the greater the risk of having issues.

This is very true, I had an issue with a power supply, it's not like yours about the possibility of under-powering the system by adding a component, but it was just a faulty psu, what it did was I built my PC, turn it on, and 2 days later it had fried my motherboard, cpu and created faults in my ram, so running on a low power psu for a long time with components that may overpower it may indeed cause it to crap out, and may take said components down with it, just a word of caution.

If im correct, the more watts the better it is or is there a limit?? so a psu around 450W - 500W is fine right (im not going to add any new gpu for quite sometime) ?? and does the motherboard make a diff? mine is a 3 year old system - 2Gb ram - asrock conroe 945g-dvi - core2duo 2.13 Ghz E6400 - 250Gb harddisk Sorry for asking so many questions, im really really poor on computer hardware :P

Not a good unit at all. While it might be a "500w" PSU, it is only capable of pushing 240w (20a) to the 12v rails. Modern PC's pull most of the power (CPU and GPU) from the 12v lines. So having most of your power available to the 12v rails is how it should be.

out of them 2, buy the Corsair VX 450w.

This your card?

PowerColor Radeon HD 4850 512 MB

Here's the power consumption idle, average and load (128w idle, 192 average, 208 full load)

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Powercolor/HD_4850/21.html

here is a picture of the power stats for the

Corsair 450w VX Series Power Supply

See the top psu with the green title "Corsair Vx specifications: model cmpsu-450vx", here you will see the +12v rail saying it can handle 396w, so considering the power consumption of the above card I think you should be fine, even taking into account your system spec.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=CONROE945G-DVIhere is your motherboard straight from the manufacturers site, it says "1 x PCI Express x16 slot" so yes you have the correct interface, don't worry that it isnt Pci-express 2.0, because all pci-express 2.0 cards are down-compatible with pci-express 1.0 and 1.1.
