hey all, im interested in getting a new 60" 1080p tv

what do u all make of theLG 60PS7000 ...in the uk its going for around £1700 which is pretty decent price compared to most other brands making similar screen sizes, which others would u recommend?

also the refresh rate on this LG is 600hz!!...necessary?..i heard of new tvs with 100-120hz but 600!?!?...and 2,000,000:1 D contrast ratio..higher than most other brands

thanks for all the help

It's a decent TV...

The 600hz is the sub-fields not the refresh rate: the TV runs at 60 hz and has 10 sub-fields per frame which equals 600 sub-fields a second (600hz)....sub-fields are basically how many times the pixels get charged....and in the case of plasma they are charged several times a frame.

For the most part the 600hz number is a bit misleading and doesn't really effect picture quality that much.

you fell for marketing.

in addition to what the guy before said, under most lighting conditions a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio isn't visible, so unless you have a room with absolutely no light you won't see all the whitest whites, and you won't see the blackest blacks

Yup, any plasmas. Basically LCD's are now pushing 240hz while Plasma's aren't there yet so it's a way for marketing to catch up without really catching up, if you know what I mean.

600hz is a "me too" marketing ploy to make people think that Plasmas aren't a dieing technology. Don't fall for it, buy LCD. Cheaper and just as good in quality anymore (for all but the most extreme videophile.)
