So I am planning on getting a new desktop to be able to play the newer games like Crysis and Age of Conan... I dont really care if i can run them on Very High but I would like to run them Medium- High with good fps.... So far I have found this comp... Its pretty cheap for a quad core but do I really need a quad core? http://www.b-com.ca/product.php?productid=223494

Would the Quad Core be worth it? Or should I get a deent dual core for cheaper.... I dont really want to spend too much over $1000... And Im going to get a 8800GT... If you have any suggestions on what kind of stuff should I get please post

That computer is way to high in price this computer with a few changes is $30 more and includes a 8800gt http://www.avadirect.com/product_details_configurator.asp?PRID=9554 Select antec truepower trio for powersupply, E4600 for processor(can overclock to higher speeds), crosair 2x1gb XMS2 Xtreme for ram, 8800gt for video card, 320gb harddrive, and windows xp for operating. The total price is $957 which is great and even though its not in canadian prices, it still ships to canada and should charge you the same since the conversion rate is very close to USD. One last thing tho, if you dont' select a card then buy the same one online you can save $40-$60.

Yeah thats not a bad idea just buy a good quality powersupply along with it (silverstone,crosair,antec...ect) and then a good video card(8800gs/8800gt/9600gt) if there not overpriced like alot ive seen at bestbuy

Why do you want a quad core so badly. Quad cores aren't fully supported yet so go with a dual core.

They probaly won't work until Intel makes something new like a six core or what ever. Things like that happen all the time. Ex when PCI-E came out AGP 8x wasn't supported fully. And PCI-E 16x last I heard isn't either.

I built a computer myself not long ago in Canada. I used canadacomputers.com and NCIX.com

and in regards to your comment about rather picking it up from a store. Man build it yourself, you get much better parts and it's cheaper.

Well the only reason I would rather pick it up from a store is because then I could pay for it myself rigt there... Instead of using my parents credit card online.... My parents dont really like me using there credit card online so if bestbuy has a good deal then I would just go there.... But if I can use the credit card then I think I might get that comp from canadacomputers.com because its really cheap

I built a new computer last week and I bought mostly all of my computer parts from Canada Computers. I bought a few items from TigerDirect.ca and Windows Vista from NCIX.ca. May I ask where in Canada you live?

lol it's the same store best buy owns futureshop, ... and where do you live? Because Canada Computers has stores close to many major cities, if you check out there website www.canadacomputers.com you can get a list of their locations.

and also that is a good price for what you are getting, its just most of the parts other than the processor in that computer will be crap. But if you do end up buying that computer if you plan on installing a video card such as a 8800GT or something along those lines you best be prepared to be installing another power supply

Canadacomputers.com is BAD; they're racist against non-asians! I'm Italian. They once said they didn't speak english when I tried to return a product. Bad service. W/e. Although, I did pick up a set of those cheap Logitech X-540 surround sounds for $35 there.

Go with DirectCanada.com or NCIX.com. Been usin' them for years.

I live in Alberta and that store only has places in Ontario... And I have added it all up (The one from Future Shop) with the video card and psu and it will be about $800

A higher clocked dual core will get better FPS than a lower clocked quad core.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cpu-gpu-upgrade,1928.html

"There is no obvious advantage to quad cores over dual cores, at least according to the graphics-based benchmarks. In order for the Q6600 to compete with the dual core E6750, the same clocking rate is recommended. If you wish to combine an E2160 with a Geforce 8800 or Geforce 9, you will need to overclock. Without a clock rate of at least 2400 MHz, you will lose a considerable amount of graphics performance, because the card is not fully loaded."

I just Built an PC for a friend.

AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition

MSI K9A2 Platinum AM2+

RAIDMAX SMILODON CASE (with POWERSUPPLY 500W)

Visiontek ATI RADEON 3870 512 MB

SEAGATE BARRCUDA 750GB 7200RPM

OEM Plextor DVD-R/DL/RW

Extra Antec BLue LED 80mm FAN

Total 1,100 with Tax Included in the State of California.

Nice eh?

I also got this stuff from Fry's Electronics.. not newegg, so you can probably save more, if you brought it from newegg.

And for the question which is btter for gaming, DUAL cores are better for gaming than quad cores, unless you get a good quad core. Check out Tom's hardware-CPU CHARTS.

For example, E8500 is better than a Q6600, because the 4 cores are slower, than the 2 fast cores. Would you have 4 slow men working together, or two average men working together? And unless you are doing multi-threading, running alot of apps at the same time, you really don't need quad core. Gamers use ethier good Quad Cores Q9300 and higher, or just cheap yet kick ass Dual Cores, such as E8400, 8500. E8400 is your best bet right now, good overclock ability, and cheaper than the E8500. it will last you awhile, also. Of course the processor doesn't mean anything if you get a crappy motherboard/memory. And good intel chipsets are pricey... X48... euugh..
