Hi, I'm redoing a part of my basement, and I am including a theater room. I just wanted to know what a good projector was and get some ideas about it, etc. etc. I need to know good projectors along with a screen that will fit counterpart. Please no t.v.'s I want something big for it, so price isn't really to big a problem, but keep it reasonable.

Thanks for all the help.

Yea, I realized that, but I would only use it for movies, and "big" events on T.V.

For gaming I am all covered, and I won't be using it for that (T.T) just for that reason.

I have been using a projector for video gaming and television, and my lamp is hardly more than halfway empty after two years of using it. They are quite expensive to replace, but make no mistake, they last for quite a long time.

I use an Optoma DX625. It works great, and even comes with an adapter for component HD cables for your next-gen game consoles. Sadly no HDMI port, but adapters can be purchased that use the DVI plug for HDMI. They retail for about $850; I bought mine at Costco :P

If you absolutely NEED hdmi, Optoma makes a different version of the 625 that replaces the DVI with an HDMI (I believe it's called the ED625, but I may be wrong); you order it off their site, and it costs roughly the same. Either way, I would definately recomend this projector if you are looking for an affordable yet efficient home theater setup.

The nearly godlike Optoma HD81 is 1080p native, but most people don't think it justifies a $5000 price tag. Almost all good projectors out there that are 1080p native will run for ridiculous prices, mainly due to the sophisticated technology it takes to blow up 1080p to 90+ inches and keep the quality looking good. If you're willing to dish out that kind of money, you won't be dissapointed :)

As far as projectors goes check out ProjectorCentral.com or ProjectorPeople.com. ProjectorPeople.com is have a sweepstakes for the new gaming projector, it's pretty amazing.

check out what a bunch of other people did for their home theaters:

Here is what mine looked like:

As far as my screen goes, I used a multi-purpose vynal fabric. Constructed the screen frame from 2x4's and stapled the cloth to it from the outer parts of the wood. The 120-inch screen cost me about $100 and the 90-inch screen I made later cost about $50, it was cheaper due to the fact that the fabric I bought fit better width wise. It wasn't larger than the roll so I didn't have to buy 2 strips of cloth.
