help with TF2 achievements

hi guys

my PC is being really slow. probably because windows is not installed properly. i am planning to format my PC and install windows again.

but will doing this, delete my TF2 achievements? i mean do i ave to back up or something for the TF2 achievements?

You'd have to copy your Steam folder to save your profile and progress in the game with the classes before your reformat. The achievements are tied to your profile and stats, so that is the stuff you want to save.

If you can't do that, just play in an achievementbox server after the reformat. :wink:

I did a quick search and wasn't able to find a definative answer, but I find it very hard to believe achievements are stored locally on your PC. If they were they would be absolutely hackable. I'm sure they are stored in the Steam Community databases.

It would still be smart to backup your Steam folder to save you redownloading, losing save games, resetting your key binds, etc. If you can't back up the whole directory, I'd focus on the *.gcf files in Steam\steamapps. These are the archive files your games are installed from, if you have them it will save you most or all downloading.

Configuration files are in different locations for Valve and non-Valve games. For Valve games look for directories in Steam\steamapps\[yourSteamId]\[Game Name Long]\[gamenameshort]\cfg (example: Steam\steamapps\joe@fake.com\team fortress 2\tf\cfg. For non-Valve games look for the directories Steam\steamapps\common\[Game Name].

Just out of interest, are there any benefits to these acheivments? Besides bragging rights?death1505921

With the new medic pack achievements, getting a certain number achieved unlocks a new weapon for the medic. There are 3 new weapons.

Ah kk, that's pretty cool then. Otherwise I just saw them as an incentive to keep playing + bragging rights.
