I plan on upgrading over the summer

Current PC

3.4gz single threaded

256mb 6800gs Graphics

925x mother board

1gig memory

I am not sure to to buy a two core cpu  or to buy the newer core 2 duo, Will this generation of games take of advantage of the two cores or the four cores.

P.S any other recommdations for upgrade (on a buget)

Core 2 Duo is only 2 cores. To get 4 you will need a lot of money!

If you're on a budget just go with an E6600 if you have over a grand to spend on your pc total, go with a E6300 or 4300 if you have less. Wouldn't go with the quad cores unless you want to spend over 2 grand total. The dual core ones should last some time for games, especially if you overclock.
