i have a gateway 5662. specs are

AMD Phenom(tm) 9500 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.2GHz 3070MB RAM

Windows VistaTM Home Premium (32 bit)

ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 256MB

i was wondering what upgrades i would need to run the latest games at max settings at a high resolution. I assume i have to upgrade my psu but what else would i need to upgrade? i've looked into the hd4870 and thats the card i would want to get but are there better suggestions. I also dont want to spend a whole bunch of money but want good performance. Any help is appreciated

Yes, you will need to upgrade your power supply. I would go with a 500w or more from a reliable brand. You would probably be fine with an ATI 4850, but go for the 4870 if you've got the cash. Your other specs look fine.

Yes you WILL have to upgrade your powersupply. Since your running a single card I would look for a powersupply that can output at least 28-30 amps on the +12V line (most powersupply have more than one line) and has 2x 6pin connectors( the 4850 only requires one but more cards are requiring more so whats the point in buying a powersupply that you might have upgrade later espically if you get a good quality one). Everything else looks fine but make sure your case has enough room because there have been issues on this board with pre-builts that didn't have enough room but its most likely ok.
