im looking for a performance boost over what i have.

what is the highest i can overclock a q6700 without manually messing with teh voltage?

how about the q6600?

and the e8400?

cause im deciding when i switch from amd to intel which processor to get..

and recommend some inexpensive mobos. that can overclock easy, and are good with sli.

thanks.

the quad and higher cache of the q's

or the dual and more than likely faster clock speeds?

Can't really say I know, but the best way to find out is to do it yourself. Not every processor is going to work exactly the same though. Grab P95, overclock in small increments and use it to stress the cpu. When you start seeing errors, thats a sign you've reached your limit on whatever voltage you have.

I got my 8400 up to 3.7ghz before I had to mess with the voltage. On auto, the voltage went up to 1.36 I believe.

ive read now that the q6600 can oc easily up to 3.6ghz... does that mean it can overclock without manually messign with voltage up to 3.1 or 3.2ghz?

if so then thats the one to get, seeing as how the q6600 has 4 cores, and 8mb l2 cache

and the e8400 has 2 cores and 6mb l2 cache.

Don't know what country you are in, but in the UK if you use sites like Scan or Overclockers they are both selling the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 SLACR G0, along with an overclocking guide that tells you how to get it to 3.3GHz and with the potential to go further. It also depends on your motherboard, memory, cooler etc. but this CPU does have a good reputation for overclocking

so lets just say i should go with a 3.0ghz q6600, over a 3.4ghz e8400..

because of the larger cache and 2 extra cores.

ill be happy with 3.0-3.2ghz q6600,

and ill be going with either an XFX mobo or ASUS.. but i need one that is good with SLI for my 2 videocards i already have. though im thinking about going either 5870 or gtx380 when they come out, which ever will be faster and cheaper lol.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3610493&CatId=2406.

though im may buy the mobo and processor seperate. so i can get teh oem version of the q6700, instead of the q6600, so i know i can safely without messing with teh volatge manually to 3.2ghz atleast. there is also a evga version http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3570025&CatId=2406

gonna get a cooler that is good for the overclocking i plan on doing.
