Hello my friend and I are putting together his pc but we need some advice. This is what we have so far.

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=7608286&WishListTitle=y

My concerns for this is the motherboard andPSU, is there anythingbetter out there for that same price. The other questionis the ram, He wants 4 gigs so is there a difference between the 4 (1gigs) or 2 (2 gigs) sticks. The other question was the DDR3 for the ram, is this worth it at this time? It's really expensive but isDDR3 that much batter than DDR2?

Last was the case. Would a mid size case with 2-3 fans be able to keep everything cool or would I need to get something bigger?

thank you.

Primarily do not get the 8800GTS 640mb, there is a new version out, called the G92 8800GTS 512mb, don't let the memory fool you, it is MUCH faster and is less money.

Why buy the 8800gts 640mb version? Get the newer and better 8800gts 512mb one for the same price...

You probably wont need such a large power supply unles you intend to run an SLi setup in the future.

The motherboard is again quite expensive unless you intend to do some overclocking, otherwise i'd advise getting a cheaper P35 chipset one.

DDR3 is very expensive at the moment and tbh not worth it in my opinion, it is better but the lower clocked ddr3 modules can be beaten by high clocked ddr2. 2x2gbs will be best because you'll then have 2 more slots for another 4gb if needed in the future.

You'll probably want a case like the P182, its quiet, large, cool and looks pretty slick, although cases are a very personal choice.

One last thing - If you're getting 4gb of memory, you'll need 64bit vista to preoperly use all of it, otherwise it may only use 3-3.5gb

Go for 8800GTS 512mb instead. Also that PSU is way overkill, Corsair HX520W would be more than enough

Get rid of that video card, the 8800GTS 640 isn't what you need. Get a 8800GTS 512 (G92 version). Ditch that power supply and get a OCZ one. maybe a pair of Reapers for your RAM. I'd say get a Samsung over the Acer monitor. Also this Antec 900 case is excellent. Lastly, did you make sure to get a DVD drive/burner? :)

get ddr2. nothing really utilizes ddr3 yet, and the latencies are ungodly high.

The PC you and your friend is trying to build is rather expensive.

Motherboard: Great, but unnecessary if its expensive upper-end features aren't going to be used.

Graphics Card: Expensive. Minimal performance boost over the 8800GT, but costs way more.

Enermax: That's one expensive and powerful power supply, but you would be fine with something like the Cooler Master Real Power Pro 750w (if you don't mind that it's not modular, so lots of cluttering sleeved wires). CM RPP 750w isn't compatible with MSI motherboards though, but you should be fine with your listed motherboard.

CPU: No comment

Hard Drive (Raptor): Overrated, it helps with loading any software including the OS. If that justifies the price for you, then go for it. (Don't worry that it's only SATA I because hard drives overall don't read or write very fast at all even when spinning at 10,000RPM. The SATA I interface transfers at a max rate of 1.50 Gb/s, which is about 187.5 MB/s. That's a lot. When I try to read or write on my 7200RPM 320 GB seagate barracuda hard drive, it reads and writes at 60-70 MB/s max at the same time. You can try copying and pasting a large program file on your hard drive to see for yourself.)

Hard Drive (Caviar): No comment.

Monitor: No comment.

OS: No comment.

There are no difference in performance between 2x2GB rams and 4x1GB rams, so long that they are inserted in pairs for dual channel. DDR3 rams are overpriced and will yield no more than a 1% increase in overall system performance over the slowest DDR2 rams. Rams are so fast that it is even trivial to upgrade from DDR to DDR2 rams because rams are bottlenecked by the hard drives that stores all the information the rams need to retrieve from.

For your case and fan question, it depends on the size and speed the fans are spinning at. Also, mid size chassis is vague, some mid size chassis are huge, others are smaller. Giving the dimensions of the chassis would be more helpful.

Wrong, the 8800GT IS WAY better than a 8800gts 640mb

A8800gts 512mb (the new GTS) is faster than a 8800GTX

Lern benchmarks before u use LOL, And in my oppinion a card for 220$ is WAY better than a card that cost more and perform less!

LOL!
