hi. i have an e5200 and i am wondering why my idles are high. my idle is around 32C, but my load is nly around 47C 100% during crysis. whats with that? ive seen people with like, 25 idle and 50 load or 30 idle and 52 load. is there a reason. i have the R0 stepping and intels dg31r motherboard. its nto overclockable and i cant seem to find a thin to turn off speedstep

Those temps are just fine, higher idles mean ethier theres alot of dust on the heatsink or the case doesnot have alot of airflow. Again your temps both idle and load are good for just having a stock heatsink.

Your temps are just fine. You have nothing to worry about.

ok thats good. also, only 2 posts on the heatsink are actually working, the other 2 are broken, if i got a new heatsink, would that bring y temps down? and at my current temps, would overclocking do much? ive seen people at around 85 celcius on their e5200's and it being fine.

i'm not that familiar with intel chips but if speedstep is on i would expect that to be a little lower to be honest (why would you even want to turn that off btw?), but like was already said it's not even close to anything to worry about and load temps are ultimately the only ones that really matter. do you have any idea of the ambient temp? and i would recommend to use something like prime instead of a game to accurately stress it to a 100%

Intel C2 chips have a tendancy to report incorrent idle temperature readings. If the heatsink were to blame, then the load temps would be much more dramatic than what the OP's seeing now.

To OP: I wouldn't bother with a new heatsink. The temps you're posting are fine; I'd only be worried if you're reaching 60+ load temps. Besides, spending $15-$40 for a heatsink on a processor that's hardly worth $60 isn't a very good idea in my books.

I'm overclocked to 3.25GHz on my e5200, and my idle is 35 deg, and the sensor never seems to drop below 35 no matter the clock speed on this thing. Idle temp means sweet F A. Just use load temps as a reference for how well cooled your chip is, and at that temp, your doing well. If you want a true load temp though, you need to run prime95 for at least 10 mins. Much longer run to test stability.
