High pitched whine? GPU? Help?

When I am gaming, or other tasks, my computer has a high pitched whine. I just built about 2 weeks ago, but now it is getting on my nerves. Also happens when I am running ATITOOL... It is an XFX 4890 for those who don't know. Any ideas? It isn't artifacting or anything...

Just sounds to me like you've got a bit of coil whine, which is completely normal and nothing you can do about it. My old 8800 GTS used to do it, mainly on game menu screens or at lower resolutions.

I built my comp 4 weeks ago, and like yours its a XFX HD 4890.

It makes that high pitched noise when ever the load on the GPU suddenly increases, say I start up Crysis or GPU Folding@Home, but lasts for only like 2 min.

Im pretty sure that noise is def most likely from some of the power management components on the card. Not the GPU. I mean..how can the GPU give off a whine.

It's probabley a coil whine, you'll notice it makes more noise when your frame rates go up and less when its lower.

If you've got the Biostar TA790GX it's SUPPOSED to have a red LED.

ATI cards should have Digital PWM so they shouldn't squeal, but perhaps XFX coming from nVi cards still uses analog? (f so it's yer coils!) Other than that, I can't think of what else it would be, aside from the motherboard PWMs. My GTX 285 has a mild squeel, esp when OC'd, but the performance makes it OK :3
