I have just bought a game with very nice graphics, but I have a laptop w/ intergrated grpahics. So I was wondering, would it be best to play the game in high resolution with low details, or low resolution with high details?

Imho, it depends on the game you're playing: if it's a strategy/rpg then high res (1024/1200/up) is preferable since you'll get a better line of sight/fog of war. But if it's a board/fps, then high detail is okay.

Personally with LCD screens, I will gladly turn down the detail levels to make the game playable at the monitor's native resolution. I can't stand the way an image looks when the LCD stretches it to fit the screen. Why make the video card work hard to process higher detail at the lower resolution when the monitor is just going to ruin the image anyway by stretching it out? But of course nowadays GPU control panel software lets you do things like center a smaller image on the screen. I do this often with games that don't have widescreen capability.
