Historic RTS's?

Hey i've been looking for game like rise of nations where you build your nation and develop and then you conquer the world. I tried out Civ 4 but i didnt really like the board-game feel of it.

Age of Empires II & III
Empires: Dawn of the Modern World
Empire Earth I & II

ah i was going to suggest 3 total war games (rome, med 2 and empire) but if the turn based board game nature of civ ddidnt interest you then total war may not be your thing either. the age of empire series is very good as is empire earth.osan0

Would Rise of Nations /Thrones and Patriotsfit in here?

Empire Earth, Total War, and Europa Universalis series.
