Has the source engine had an upgrade or something? To me the graphics in Ep2 look far better than in the original game.

Yep, Valve are upgrading Source with every new HL episode.
But, yes, indeed it looks alot better.

Source is a highly modular engine and is constantly being upgraded - most notable additions are HDR, dynamic lighting and shadowing, particle system, cinematic physics, and multi-core CPU optimization.

Yep.... I believe in a recent interview they hinted at having DX10 effects for Episode Three.

IMHO the best new additions are the multi-CPU support and the dynamic lighting and shadowing system.  Ulgh the old one is ancient.
