Why on Earth would you go for the 940/945 when the 955 can be had for the same price?!?

Exactly the only reason to get a 945 is if your mobo can only support 95 watts opposed to the 955s 125 watt. The 940 would have been a cheaper deal 4 months ago when ddr2 was cheaper, but at this point there is no point to getting it since ddr2 and ddr3 cost about the same. If you want something free with it I would recommend the 965(comes with codemasters game), the most powerful amd phenom 2 processor currently. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727&cm_re=amd_965-_-19-103-727-_-Product

Get the 955. The 965 isn't worth the extra money.

Well that's debatable. If he's on a tight budget then yes get a 955 but if he's not then the 965 is something to consider. With the 965, C1E power switching management has been moved into the hardware, rather than being BIOS-based.The 965 c3's memory controller will now officially support "heavy" load DDR3-1333, four DDR3 DIMMs at the same time.Maximum power usage has been lowered from 140 watts TDP to 125 watts TDP with the 965 c3 opposed to the 140 watt of the orginal 965. Either way though if you get the 955 or 965 your making a good choice,

Its not debatable. Its a quick scam from AMD which makes you think it's worth it. In reality, its not. The 965 is simply a 955 with the multiplier slightly bumped up. You buy the 955 and change a single number and you save 30$. Same efficiency. And all those watts are meaningless. 20 watts is practically nothing.

I would get the 965BE C3 so what if its $30 more. Big deal $30 is nothing. You can't even get a decent pair jeans for $30.

It's not a scam. I gave some valid reasons as to why the c3 is a nice option to consider and I don't think it is for you decide if it's not's debatable or not, we can all share our opinions. Also watts can make a difference the difference sometimes depending on what a mobo can support.
