hi, i have had "playable frames in crysis at 1680x1050 at all high, average around 27 or so, but not exactly what i expected.
so i checked my gpu activity during it, and it was only 68%???
why?
could it be heat/

Two way to find out.
Overclock the cpu 200mhz. See if the FPS rises.
Run the benchmark at 1900x1200. If your card's activity rises then your cpu bound. You "can" run the benchmark at unsupported resolutions.. you just wont see but a corner or the screen. Or at least I can.
i checked my activity my alt-tabbing in the middle to gpu-z. i set it to stop refreshing when i was in game, so i got an idea.
PSU: 520 Watt corsair hx 520 with 41 amps on 3 12v rails. HD 4870 Certified. Positive thats not the problem.
Ran 3d mark- got to almost 80%!!! (score of 10,800: a bit low (3d 06)).
RAM- 4x1gb of DDR 2 667. Shouldnt impact perf compared to 800 speed
Mobo: nforce 570 i sli by asus.
OS: Vista 32 bit.
GPU-Z is just telling you what your temps are. 80% is hot enough for a gpu, you don't want it any hotter. And the reason 3d mark gives you higher temps than crysis is probably because the programming for 3d mark is aimed more on the GPu side.
And if you want Crysis to use more of your GPU simply up the settings and the resolution....

im talking about activity, not temps.
You want gpu-z to refreash in the background. You let it run and play your game for a minute. then you alt-tab out and look at the graph. If its full your about 100%. It isnt exact but its close when its not full to judge the activity %.CreasianDevaili
just tried with refresh. 68% w/ crysis. /sadface.
try just running crysis in a window and leaving GPU-Z open, or any other temp/usage program open. Also, something to consider since you have Vista, I have Everest installed and it comes w/ a gadget that allows you to view your mobo temp, cpu temp, and gpu temp and anything else you wanna slap on the gadget. Its not free, but might be worth it in your case. I have dual monitors and leave the sidebar running on the alternate monitor w/ it open and its nice to see whats taxing on it and whats not....leading to the fact that my GPU temp drops from 75c peak to ~68c just loading a new map in COD4 multi, so even alt-tabbing makes an immediate difference.
my card must not support that feature then as I don't get these options in my ver of gpu-z. Anyway the reason your card is not at 100% is probably due to the fact that you don't have the game on high enough settings. Also Crysis is not optimized for ATI, and the ATI drivers for 4870 are a bit crappy atm.. Its going to take a whiles untill good drivers for 4x series comes out.
I may have the solution, did you make sure you had the power cable plugged in? My card only ran at 50% when I did not plug it in and I was very bewildered and upset.Luminouslight
funny enough, i ran into this problem already, although it just caused my pc to not boot. i checked and rechecked the connections.

yeah i had to d/l the new gpu-z version.
so you think that its a driver/game problem, and not a cpu issue? my e6600 is old, not pentium D old though lol.
maybe they can figure out how to make a game offload more onto the gpu in the next driver.
test your card on some games thats are well optimized for ATI... And put the settings to the max and put highest resolution possible and see what you get... That's the best way to find out imo. And maybe try vantage instead of 3d 06.
