No, go to www.newegg.com and put the exact spec of the alienware into cart and you will see why I am saying that.

Infact you can put better than that and it will still be cheaper.

Ther're really nice computers if you don't want to build your own, but you can make your own cheaper. There is also this other website www.ibuypower.com. Their computers are nice and less expensive than alienware even with the same stuff.

They are nice and high quality, but a poor value.

My family has purchased a few from ibuypower.com, and I wouldn't recommend them. At first they seem like a good deal, but when we received the computers I found that they did not contain the exact parts I ordered. On top of that it was put together with very low quality OEM parts. You're much better off building one yourself by ordering from newegg.com, their deals really can't be beat.

I purchased this XPS 410 system from Dell:

Core 2 Duo E600

2GB DDR2

GeForce 7900GS 256MB

Windows Vista Home Premium

For $1,200.

It's very well-built and I haven't had any problems with it at all. My experience with Dell was very good. I'd recommend Dell computers if you want a good value, as opposed to Alienware.

That's a great value on a bought computer; however, I bet you could build one like that for $800.

So (@ the TC), if you are comfortable with building a computer then do that, and if you aren't go for something like a Dell with a better value than Alienware.

The irony is that dell owns Alienware.

Well you could've got a much better pc for less then $1200.

vista- $115

case- $40

psu- $80

keybouard/mouse- $30

hdd- $80

mobo-$120

8800gts 340mb- $280

e6600-$220

dvd/cd drive- $40

All for $1005.

Or if you take away the 8800 gts and replace it with a 8800 gtx it would be $1230.

Some of dell prices are almost impossible to beat since you get a 20" monitor or higher with the purchase. The TC will be better off purchasing a Dell brand than an overpriced Alienware. Dell acquired Alienware but the Dell brand is still a better price. They recently had a special for 499.99 with a 20" LCD, 2GB ram and Core 2 Duo.

NO, not even a little bit. Plus they are owned by DELL now and anyone who works for an IT company knows that Dell has a bad track record for hardware.

Go to newegg or cyberpowerpc and customize what you need for how much you want to spend.

If you know how to custom build, go for it. I built my last computer and only ran into a few mobo-related issues. I opted to by a pre-built for the sake of convenience, but building your own system is definitely a better value.

Yes, if you can. If you aren't technically savy or don't feel like researching parts performance you can go to one of the custom shope mentioned and spend a little more. Personally, I like collecting my computer one piece at a time as I run into deals and rebates and build my own.

they're not BAD, they're just grossly overpriced. if you WANT to spend $1000 more for a computer than you need to for the brand, then go for it.

Simple answer.. No.. You can build a computer of the equivlent power for a fraction of the price.. And Building computers are insanely easy to do if you can read.. And sense you are typing on a forum this is not a problem.

NO DON'T do that... Dell is even worse when it comes to desktops, they give you minimal room for any upgrades, and they cut alot of corners.. Not to mention their software is LOADED with spyware and things that cut your performance.

Proof of this is when one of my family members lost thier computer due to power surge.. Transfered their old dell hard drive fromt eh dell computer to a new one I build with them. Dell called 30 minutes after when they realized somehting was wrong with the computer throught he software.

Seriouslly its people like you who give computers a bad name.. Firstly don't ask a forum read actual reviews, hardware reviews, comparisons etc etc.. Why must people be so impatient and buy the first thing they see with in 5 minutes of the time on such a huge investment.. It took me a few weeks of research when I had free time to finally make my purchases for hardware to build my computer.

Firstly know what the actual hardware is and does.. Because form what I have seen you just chose the shiniest piece of hardware out there because it looks cool, and its big price must mean its good.. Secondly read reviews, if your gonna spend a $2000 ona computer the leas tyou can do is research for a week..

Alienware for instance I would not get because of its extreme price doesn't make itthe bestbang for the buck.

i higly recommend building youse own. i previously never built a computer from the ground up , but after a week of research ( yes thats it) i came up with a list of parts. took a while longer because i had to change from amd to intel for the better value on the e6600. spent 1.2k on my computer almost 1.3k and another 170 on a 19 inch lcd. i ordered everything from newegg expect the case and power supply . luckly i got everything the same day and built it in 3 hours ( because of first build and all) but it went flawlessly. i expected more troubleshooting but first power on was the only one needed. im loving it now and looks sleek. i hate having brands slapt on my computer. ( dell and crapin balls) . i say buy a computer building book if you are unsure and build it. its insanely easy . like playing with legos , everything seems to just click together .

OK, for the newbie to get their feet wet. Go to cyberpowerpc.com and pick out a gaming kit. Look at the list of upgrades and downgrades. When you see something that you might want to upgrade, copy the name and make of the piece, paste it in google and put "review" at the end. Check out the reviews and performance results and see what you want to get. If you were thinking about getting an alienware, you can get something that absolutely SCREAMS on this site.

Then next time take that knowledge and build your own.

haha, wow your good. Well okay, i'll take your suggestion in consideration. Thank you!

In the end every one is going to agree building your computer is the best choice.. You will save the most money, full customization.. Not to mention if you research you will leave room for upgrading in the future which alot of prebuilt systems do not let you, such as dell for instance.

To conclude if you want to get the most powerful computer for the cheapest price your going to have to bite the bullet and build it your self.. But there are bonuses to it.. Firstly alot of items have life time warranties, secondly its not as difficult as it sounds what so ever and if you ever have a problem you will have a huge understanding of your system.. Lastly is the sense of pride of doing (not bragging I don't know why people post their specs on forums as sigs, I think its plain silly but thats just me) it...

In the end you will know exactly what you rput in it, how it iwll perform if you researched correctly, with a far smaller bill to pay.. Alot of people who constantly complain about the constant upgrading of PC or that htey cost too much.. Are the ones that buy the immensly expensive prebuilt or try to buy top of the line parts regardless of reviews.. Remember just because a component costs $1000 does not mean it will double the performance of a $500 component.. In all honestly alot of times in areas of processors its barely noticable in games.. Benchmarks show for instance that these chips that are double the price usually at best outdue the cheaper by 15fps at the highest.. Now normally that would be a big deal when if the range was 20 or 35.. But they are not.. Its always in the range of 120+fps, where you will just not notice a difference of 15fps at the high or higher.
