I barely have an interest in building, improving, securing, modifying etc.... multiple home locations. I am considering improving the Sanctuary home and that is it. Is there a benefit to building up multiple locations? Similar to Gwent in Witcher 4 I barely have an interest in home building in Fallout 4 (about 9 hours played). My lack of Gwent interest does not seem to have effected my Witcher 3 game-play (about 50 hours) so far. Overall I want to know if it is needed or extremely important.

Unlike Gwent in TW3, in Fallout 4, the settlements can provide you with resources (purified water and crops for example) that can help you in crafting things you need. So if you are interested in that, you can simply build the very, very basic setups for settlements that take little time to do and still be able to benefit.

No need to do it at all. Fallout 4 also doesn't explain shit of how to actually do things, so it's a very annoying process to build something remotely cool.
